Top 10 Player Profiles of 2018: No. 5 Jack Washburn
December 21, 2018
Webster earned their school’s first-ever WIAA baseball title in their first year at the Division-3 level thanks in part to the work on both the mound and in the batter’s box by Jack Washburn. Washburn, per our own state rankings, is one of the most talented pitchers in the state. His statistics from the spring are evidence enough on their own. The Oregon State commit recorded an ERA of 0.66 in 2018 and struck out 87 batters in over 42 innings of work. As if his heavy lifting from the rubber wasn’t enough, the Tigers were buoyed by Washburn’s performance at the plate in the spring. He hit .446 and slugged 10 homers for Webster – he also scored a couple key runs in the championship game and drove in another, too.
His accomplishments in the spring were capped off by earning the title of PBR Wisconsin Player of the Year. Washburn’s player profile might even be more active in 2019 where, as one of the state’s top-ranked seniors, he could stir some draft interest come June.

Breaking ball, thrown with fastball arm speed, intent, late, sharp 11/5 action, 79-81 mph. Also, hit at the event. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, smooth loading action, toe-tap stride and average balance throughout. Strong hands, creates leverage, uphill bat path and flashed pull power. 93 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran a 7.0 laser-timed 60.
