There have been six players named the Porsche Exchange Player of the Week so far this season. This past week’s winner was Deerfield senior RHP Zach Shutan.

For the week, Shutan put up impressive numbers on the mound. Shutan twirled two, complete game shutouts, against Chicago Suburban League opponents to lift the Warriors conference record to 5-3. For the week he won twice, went 12 innings, surrendering six hits, no runs, struck out 11 and walked four.

Several players narrowly missed out on winning the award this week. Let’s take a look at some of the players around the state who put up impressive numbers last week:

WEEK 6

Matt McCumber, RHP, Cary-Grove, 2016
Northern Illinois recruit. Twirled a perfect game against Dundee-Crown who was 7-0 in conference at the time. He went seven innings, struck out six, and threw 67 pitches.

Matt Pizur, RHP, Willowbrook, 2016
North Park recruit. Spun a no-hitter against Addison Trail. Pizur faced one hitter over the minimum, with the batter reaching on a dropped third strike. Struck out nine, no walks and threw 76 pitches. Pizur is now 4-0 on the year with a 1.12 ERA.

George Sherman, LHP, Niles North, 2017
Two complete games on the mound, with one shutout. In a start against Lane Tech, Sherman went six innings, scattered four hits, allowed two earned runs, struck out seven and walked one. In his second start of the week he twirled a complete game shutout. Seven innings, no runs, scattered four hits, struck out four and walked two. In his last three starts Sherman has a 0.72 ERA.

Vinnie Massaglia, RHP/INF, Morton, 2018
Massaglia tossed a no-hitter against Pekin. Went five innings, no runs, struck out seven and walked two. He also went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in at the plate. He currently has a 26 scoreless inning streak on the mound.
