2016 RHP Carter Brown committed to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Brown had a great year for Bentonville HS as a dual player, contributing in right-field and on the mound. The most memorable play from his junior campaign was his throw from right-field in the 7A State title game to cut down a runner at the plate to stop a Conway rally and preserve the lead for the Tigers. Although he has shown the ability to be a very solid high school outfielder, Brown projects to pitch in college. Here is the evaluation of him from our North Arkansas Identification Showcase in Fort Smith in early July.
Carter Brown, 2016, RHP/OF Bentonville HS
Brown is a 6-foot-1 190 pound right hander with a large-frame and average build. He worked from an H ¾ arm slot with a quick clean arm. He repeated his mechanics with some effort. He commanded the strike zone with 3 pitches. He threw his fastball 84-86 with slight sink. His curveball was thrown 70-71 mph with gradual break, but was thrown for strikes. He commanded the change up, throwing the pitch with near fastball arm speed and arm side run at 73-76 mph. Overall Brown has a strong arm with a feel to pitch, in his defensive work he registered a 90 mph throwing from the outfield. I believe with some mechanically fixes he will throw harder, and be a solid pitcher at the collegiate level.
