Top Prospects 2017 Hitting
Kam’Ron Mays-Hunt is an exceptional story, the player of the class, that was dominant on the youth level and the biggest name as this class arrived in high school. Mays-Hunt is a stand out football player and had shifted his focus to football, and appeared to be headed that way, falling in class rankings as his athleticism, could be seen, but was not translating as he continued to play baseball.
Late in the high school season, there began to be a change in Mays-Hunt and success began to the norm again for him on the baseball. He transitioned to the summer and became a star. He ran a 6.6 at the Sticks Scout Day, through 90 mph from the outfield, and 88 across the infield. On the mound he flashed a fastball up to 92 with late action and a wipe slider thrown 80-82. He followed that performance with two innings pitched at the Top Prospects Games, with comparable results. I saw him again that week at the Chad Wolfe Classic and he flashed similar big-time stuff on the mound. I was not the only ones watching as Arkansas, was impressed and jumped into the recruiting process and closed the deal with Mays-Hunt quickly after.
Mays-Hunt is a tough guess on the MLB draft, he is most polished on the mound but has very little experience as he threw 1 inning in high school and 15 over the summer, 14U baseball has been his most expensive mound time, and that was 4 years ago now. Athletically there is few players which compare, a player I will track through spring 2018.
