With the spring season just weeks away, PBR OK is excited to take an in-depth look at the 2023 class. Many at the top of this list will look to make an immediate impact for their high-school teams. Since we came out with our inaugural rankings we have had the opportunity to continue to see players at three events and in the small school fall season. This edition of the rankings expands to the top 85 2023s we have seen up close and personal with a few newcomers towards the top and some risers on the list. As we do with all of our rankings, we took into consideration current skill level, current athleticism and strength, and short and long term projectibility.

Top 3

Remaining in the top spot in our initial OK 2023 rankings is switch hitting SS Jaxon Willits (Fort Cobb-Broxton), an Oklahoma University commit. The 6-foot, 180-pound athlete has a developed and strong lower half along with some broadness in his shoulders. At the dish, we have only been able to get eyes on him from the left-side where he shows a balanced and quiet set-up. Uses a smooth load and moderate stride before launching his hands on a short and slightly uphill path through extension with bat speed and strength in his hands. Shows a calm, confident, and patient approach at the dish. Defensively,  more of the same confident approach with a high IQ and smooth, confident actions with soft hands and clean footwork. Willits’ hands, feet, and arm strength with carry across the diamond will allow him to stay on the left side of the infield. His frame and foot speed could push him to be an elite defender at third at the next level, depending on development.

Holding the second spot is a lean and quick twitch SS, Kyler Proctor (Silo), a recent Oklahoma commit. The athletic 5-foot-10, 150-pound framed Proctor already shows advanced defensive skills with quick and clean footwork, soft hands, and accurate arm with some strength at 81 mph across the diamond. Offensively, the right-handed hitter shows some barrel whip and occasional lift with a middle to pull side approach, barreling nearly every ball in BP, and an 86 mph exit velo. Proctor also shows his athleticism with a 7.11 60. On the mound, the right-hander shows the ability to touch 84 with strikes while possessing feel for a changeup and curveball as well. Proctor played a major role in Silos second place Class A Fall State Championships on the mound, with the bat, and on the infield.

At number three is another versatile athlete in C/OF Jerson Martin (Norman North). Looking much leaner than his 6-foot, 190-pound listing, Martin shows elite bat speed and strength for his age with an 89 mph exit velo. Martin connect with nearly all barrels at the OK Fall Underclass Prospect Games in BP and in the game. The catcher and outfielder also shows advanced arm strength from both spots with a 1.91-2.08 pop time and 77 mph from behind the dish and 82 mph from the outfield. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from an upright and relaxed set-up with rhythm throughout before launching his hands on a short and slightly uphill path through extension with a gap to gap approach.

Newcomers
The PBR Oklahoma staff is always out and on the lookout for talented players across the state, and we pride ourselves on constantly evaluating and discovering new players. Below are three new players that made a big splash over the last few months.

Colin Fisher, LHP/1B, Noble HS
A physically advanced 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame. The left-hander jumps into the top 15 of the rankings, working from a simple and easy delivery that he repeats very well, especially for his age. Arm action has moderate length in the back, making a clean and smooth  circle before coming through a high-¾ slot with very little effort. Threw almost all strikes with a fastball that sits 77-81 mph with much more in the tank. Curveball shows 1/7 shape with occasional depth at 67-68 mph. Changeup shows some fade at 68-71 mph. Offensively, the left-handed hitter shows barrel control with a balanced swing.

Connor Willson, RHP, Owasso HS
A physically advanced 6-foot-1, 190-pound durable frame with a strong lower half. On the mound, the right-hander works from a smooth and average tempo delivery before gliding down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is long and fluid in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot with very little effort. Fastball sits 74-77 mph, mostly strikes, with more velo to come soon.  Curveball has 12/6 shape with big depth at 60-63 mph, mostly strikes.

Ethan Horton, RHP, Yukon HS
A very lean and projectable 6-foot-2, 158-pound frame. The right-hander works from a smooth and controlled delivery before getting his foot down and exploding to the dish. Arm action is long and controlled in the back before coming through a nearly over the top slot with some arm speed. Fastball shows some downhill tilt at 73-78 mph with some strikes. Slider has 1/7 shape at with some depth and occasional late bite at 68-69 mph. Changeup flashes big sink and fade at 71-72 mph.

Risers
Over the past few months, a few players have shown impressive growth and have shot up the list. Below are a few of them

Taylor Tomlin, OF, Deer Creek HS
Showcased a lean and athletic 5-foot-8, 135-pound frame with room to fill out as he matures. Demonstrated a quiet, even setup with hands on the shoulder to start while utilizing a controlled leg-lift with coil around the back hip to initiate his swing. A fluid and twitchy lower half generated some barrel whip through a flat path into the hitting zone finishing into a stiff front side. Advanced flexibility and control of the barrel allow for repeatable swings while registering a 79 mph bat-exit velocity. Recorded a 6.92 60-yard dash. The primary outfielder showed advanced, fluid movements with noticeable momentum towards the plate. Feet arrived on time consistently and played through the ball with a soft glove hand and easy transfers. Notched an 80 mph arm-strength from his position out of a quick, high ¾ arm-slot with some carry. Tomlin is also up to 83 on the mound from the left-side.

Cale Wetwiska, OF, Bethany HS
Demonstrated a long 5-foot-11, 145-pound frame with physicality and strength while still having room to fill out as he matures. The right-handed hitter begins with a bent, even stance using a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. The barrel whips through a slightly uphill path in the hitting zone creating head high line drives to all fields. Consistent feel for the hands allowed for solid barrel control off the tee while registering an 83 mph bat-exit velocity. Recorded a 7.25 60-yard dash. The outfielder showcased feet that arrived to the ball on time with regularity while utilizing a strong lower half and long, high ¾ arm action to notch an accurate 86 mph arm-strength from his position with carry. Wetwiska is also up to 77 on the mound.

Devin Mitchell, OF, Bishop McGuinness
Demonstrated a long 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame with strength in his actions and room to add size as he matures. The right-handed hitter begins with a wide, even stance utilizing a knee knock stride to initiate his swing. Generated a flat barrel path through the hitting zone allowing for a line drive approach during batting practice. Displayed advanced feel for his hands working through the ball to extension. Registered an 81 mph bat-exit velocity and ran a 7.20 60-yard dash. The primary outfielder showed easy, fluid actions while arriving to the ball on time and playing through with momentum towards the target. Flashed an accurate 82 mph arm-strength out of a high ¾ arm-slot.
