PBR Midwest ProCase: Statistical Analysis

The annual PBR ProCase - Midwest took place on Tuesday, July 10th at Route 66 Stadium in Joliet, Illinois. The event showcased nearly 40 of the top Midwest prospects from the 2019 class, which consisted of a pro style workout and simulated game in front of the PBR Scouting Staff and over 20 professional scouts.

TOP 60 YARD DASH
Over half of the events 60-yard dash participants (17/25) broke the 7.00 second mark. Jack Krumbach (Madison Memorial, WI) had the best time on the day at 6.49 just barely edging out Clark Elliot (Barrington, IL) by one tenth of a second. Krumbach went on to have one of the best performances at the event. Joliet Catholic's Gregory Ziegler showcased his high-motor capabilities finishing third overall with a very respectable 6.63 60.

TOP FASTBALL VELOCITY
Nearly half of the pitchers (6 of 14) broke the 90 mph mark in the events seven-inning simulated game. Griffin Holderfield (Oak Park-River Forest) claimed the top spot pushing his fastball up to 93 mph. Tying for the second spot, one tick behind the leader, was Cameron Kissel (Plainfield North, IL) and Michael Doolin (Andrean, IN) seeing their heater touch 92 mph, respectively. Doolin utilized his plus, athletic frame and fluid arm path to easily sit his fastball in the low 90's. Grant Leader (Lyons Township) repeatedly hit 91 mph to both sides of the plate with his his short, explosive arm speed.

TOP EXIT VELOCITY
Almost 70% (18 of 26) of the participants who swung the wood finished with an exit velocity of 90 mph or better. Tyler Brandenburg (Lake County Lutheran) was the only player to crack the century mark with his 100 mph exit velocity, doing so three times. Jason Hodges was hot on his tail at 99 mph showcasing why he is one of the top right-handed power bats in the Midwest. Highly-projectable outfielder Alex Helmin (Providence Catholic) demonstrated a consistent bat speed hitting 97 mph three times.

TOP INFIELD VELOCITY
Nolan Wosman (Palmyra, MO), one of the top bats at the event, stood alone in the 90's club throwing 91 mph across the diamond. Jalen Greer (St. Rita) claimed the second spot hitting 89 mph across with ease on a grounder up the middle. Brody Harding (Moline, IL) rounded off the list showcasing his defensive savviness and multi-angle arm slot tossing 87 mph to first base.

TOP OUTFIELD VELOCITY
Cade Clemons (Lees Summit West, MO) and Chase Krogman (Liberty (Lake St. Louis), MO) separated themselves from the pack here tying for the top outfield velocity at 93 mph. Clemons dropped his name in the top infield velocity as well, showing off his multi-positional abilities. Highly athletic Kendal Ewell (Marist, IL) had a consistent showing from the outfield hitting 89 mph all three times to home.

TOP CATCHER POP TIMES
Four of the five catchers in attendance posted a 2.00 or sub-2.00 pop time on the day. Nathan Stevens (Waunakee, WI) claimed the top spot over Drake Baldwin (Madison West, WI) thanks to a smaller range, however they both posted the event-best pop at 1.98 from the crouch. Stevens was another player who saw his name in two top velocity categories placing second among the outfielders.

TOP CATCHER VELOCITY
This group of catchers featured comparable arms up and down. Kiel Brenczewski (Fishers, IN) was the outlier here showcasing his strong arm throwing 83 mph to second base. Four ticks behind the leader was left-handed hitting catcher Tyler Snep (Lake Zurich, IL) and durable back-stop Casey Kmet (St. Viator, IL).
