Taking a Look at the Jr. Future Games ID Showcase Top Performers

On Saturday, March 14th many of Mississippi’s top 7th and 8th graders made their way to Smith Will’s Stadium in Jackson for Prep Baseball Reports Jr. Future Games Identification Showcase.  It was evident the talent pool across the state is stocked!

The players were put through a typical showcase style workout that allowed each of them to show off their individual skill set. Pitchers were also allowed to face hitters later in the day to give the PBR staff an opportunity to evaluate players in game-like activity. 

Below are a few standouts from the event. 

Class of 2024

Stone McCaughey (Lewisburg) looked polished on the mound with a lively fastball that touched 83 mph and a very mature breaking ball with tight spin.

Chase Russell: Madison Central High School, Class of 2024; 6-foot, 185-pound solid frame; 3B/RHP. During batting practice, the left-handed hitters best exit velocity was 81 mph. Setup consisted of balanced stance and a toe tap  Has above average bat speed and a flat swing plane, and he ends his swing with a high finish. In the infield, his best throw was recorded at 70 mph across the field; had soft hands and rhythmic feet. Used a loose arm action with an-over-the-top slot. During the event, he clocked a 60 time of 8.57. On the mound, he has an over-the-top arm angle and a long arm action. He is a drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses some effort in his delivery. He showed the most control on his curveball (62-64 mph) when he stayed on top;  has some action and consistent accuracy on curveball. His fastball came in at 75-78 mph.
