OK Rankings Update: Class of 2023

The PBR Oklahoma 2023 Class Rankings have been updated after a baseball packed Spring and Summer. The 2023s continue to add depth to an already talented class with some players who have seen major development and some newcomers to the list. Check out the risers, newcomers, and fully expanded rankings, below.

The Top 3
At the top of the OK rankings sit three shortstops. Each gifted infielder has a different skill set from the other two, making the argument for top player in the class an interesting one.  |
Jaxon Willits SS / Fort Cobb-Broxton, OK / 2023Through the spring and summer, Willis has continued to prove that he is one of the most polished left-handed hitters in the country with the ability to hit for average and power. Defensively, Willits shows soft and sure hands, clean footwork, and plenty of arm strength to stay on the left-side of the infield to go along with his high-end baseball IQ. If the Oklahoma commit continues to add strength and size to his 5-foot-11, 195-pound frame, Willits could move comfortably to third base.

Jax Ryan SS / 2B / Verdigris , OK / 2023Another Oklahoma commit, Ryan is a slick fielding infielders with as clean of actions of any infielder in the 2023 class with an accurate and accurate arm. Offensively, the right-handed hitter has continued to polish his swing and is showing more and more power to go with his ability to find barrel. At 6-foot-0, 160-pounds with lean strength already, Ryan is uber-projectable with a very high celling.

Avery Ortiz SS / RHP / Union, OK / 2023Rankings StateRank: 3 / POS: 3
After a strong spring and a coming out party at this year's Future Games, the uncommitted Ortiz has shot up our rankings to the third spot. One of the top athletes in the country, Ortiz put up some of the most impressive all around metrics at the Future Games as a position player and on the mound with fastballs for strikes up to 91 mph.

Colin Fisher LHP / 1B / Noble, OK / 2023Rankings StateRank: 5 / POS: 1
The physically impressive 6-foot-3, 195-pound left-hander has continued to get better every time we have seen him. Fisher shows high-end pitchability with one of the best left-handed breaking balls for the class in the country. Fisher is a recent Arkansas commit.

Taber Stokes SS / 2B / Mustang , OK / 2023Rankings StateRank: 27 / POS: 6
One of the top defenders in the state that will stay at SS at the next level, Stokes helped lead Mustang to the State Championship game. The right-handed hitter also shows some sneaky juice from the right side.

Noah Smith 3B / RHP / Piedmont, OK / 2023Rankings StateRank: 41 / POS: 1
Smith has battled through injury to to come back more physical and with better measurables. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound 3B RHH runs a sub 7.00 60, is up to 85 across the diamond, and up to 91 in BP. |
The Newcomers
In the offseason, we found a couple of difference makers who earned their way into our rankings. Below we highlight three prospects new to the top 30 spots of our rankings.

Anthony Smith RHP / 3B / Stillwater, OK / 2023Rankings StateRank: 13 / POS: 2
Smith is a physical two-way prospect who's currently shines brightest on the mound. The right-hander consistently shows upper 80s fastballs with high spin rates and much more velo in the tank.

CJ Freeland C / OF / Ada , OK / 2023Rankings StateRank: 24 / POS: 6
A rare switch hitting catcher that can defend at a high level with a strong arm as well as put up numbers from both sides of the dish. Freeland most recently posed showcase pop times as low as 1.90 with accuracy at the OK Underclass Games and exit velos up to 90 in BP. Also shows his athleticism as a more than capable outfielder. |

Tristan King RHP / 1B / Union, OK / 2023Rankings StateRank: 29 / POS: 9
King had a strong spring from Union, showing strong starts against some of the top offenses in the state. King pitches in the mid 80s with the fastball and really competes on the mound. At 6-foot, 170-pounds, King has much more room to add size, strength, and velo. |
