NBC World Series Tournament 7/24-7/26

Braden Minor, RHP, Goddard Eisenhower, 2016 (Oklahoma)
Minor came in relief and went 4.1 innings striking out 4 batters and walking only one. He came at hitters with an 86-90 mph fastball and 69-75 mph curve. He used both effectively to keep the Sluggers in the game.

Micah McCulley, RHP, McPherson, 2016
McCulley faced two batters and struck out one. He had a 80-82 mph fastball and a 72-74 mph breaking pitch.

Jake Karst, C, Maize, 2016
Karst was two-for-five on the day with 1 RBI and 2 SB as the team’s designated hitter. He beat out a throw to first base for his hit and lined a single for his second hit. I timed him to first at 4.50 and 4.57 seconds

Matt Johnson, SS, Haysville Campus, 2016
Johnson had a good day at the plate by going two for four with two runs scored. The both of the right-hander’s hits were opposite field line drives.

KABC All-Star Game – 6/3/15

Corey Cowan, RHP/3B, Turner HS (2015)
Cowan is a class of 2015 right-handed pitcher and right-hand hitting third baseman that attends Turner HS in Kansas. Hutchinson CC commit. Physical 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame. Simple delivery, body control, repeats, three-quarters slot, arm works, easy arm, more in the tank velocity wise. Threw one inning. Fastball in the 82-88 mph range, commands it. Showed a 69-70 11/5 breaking ball, tight spin, controllable pitch, freezes hitters for called strikes. Showed a 73-74 change-up with arm side run, good pitch. Feel for all three pitches and throws a high percentage of strikes. Improved since we saw in November 2014. Posted a 5-2 record for Turner this spring with a 1.43 ERA, 49 innings pitched, 33 hits, six walks and 64 strikeouts. Named to the KABC 5A All-State team for the second consecutive season.

Spencer Bessette, RHP/OF, Sante Fe Trail HS (2015)
Bessette is a class of 2015 right-handed pitcher and right-hand hitting outfielder. Thin, athletic 6-foot-2, 165-pound frame, projection. Somewhat raw on the mound but throws with a natural low three-quarters slot, loose arm, arm works. Fastball has arm side running action, at times late. Got under ball occasionally causing early arm-side run. Showed ability to make adjustments. Clocked at 80-83 mph. Mostly fastballs. Athletic in the outfield and ran a 4.28 home-to-first from the right side. Could be a solid late pick up for a small four-year school or junior college. With his loose arm and lanky frame as he fills out should add velocity and improve his command.
