On Sunday, February 25th, the PBR Kansas staff traveled to Mahattan, KS, to host The Barn Scout Day. This event featured 30+ players representing the 2024-to-2028 classes from Kansas.

Those in attendance participated in a pro-style workout in front of our staff, gathering unrivaled data and measureables through the help of our tech partners. To see what our events offer, click HERE.

Now, at the event's conclusion, our staff has gone through our scout notes and we've highlighted some of the day's name-to-know players below. Additionally, we've also compiled several of the statistical leaders from this event into categorical leaderboards, which can also be found if you continue reading.

QUICK HITS

+ RHP Cooper Sieben (Rock Creek, 2025) had a standout showing on the mound at Sunday’s scout day. At 6-foot-3, 200-pounds, Sieben is an easy mover down the mound, using a loose, whippy arm to run his fastball up to 85 mph, consistently sitting between 81-84 mph with a top spin rate of 2200 RPM. The righty’s best secondary pitch at the moment looks to be his slider which he threw at 73-74 mph with tight 2300+ RPM spin. Sieben paired that with a curveball for strikes at 71-73 mph and a low spin changeup at 75-76 mph.

+ Plenty physical at 6-foot-1, 210-pounds, RHP Cody Mayer (Wamego, 2025) uses his arm strength to fill up the zone with a 82-84 mph fastball, peaking at 85 mph on the day. Off of that he tunneled a sweeping slider at 74-77 mph and a low spin (T1053 RPM) changeup to pair, flashing feel to command both for strikes.

+ CIF Matthew Genrich (Topeka, 2024) is an uncommitted senior to keep an eye on this spring. Genrich swung a physical right handed barrel, getting the head out on several balls to elevate them pullside. He produced an event leading 90.4 max exit velocity on his best barrel; averaging 86 mph on the day. Defensively, the righty showed sure-handed actions in the field, firing his firmest throw across the infield at 80 mph - top 3 at the event. Additionally, Genrich ran a 7.05 60 to wrap up the day.

+ INF Mitchel Kramer (Sabetha) is one of the top infielders in Kansas’ 2025 class. Strong and compact at 5-foot-10, 185-pounds, Kramer uses a strong, inside-out swing from the right side of  the plate to drive balls with juice to all fields. Kramer was on the barrel throughout his round of BP, posing a max exit velocity of 89.8 mph to go alongside a max distance of 297 ft. His strength showed within his arm as well, where Kramer had the second highest infield velocity of the day with a 82 mph mark.

+ INF Sawyer Newton (Manhattan, 2026) emerged as a name to know sophomore from Sunday’s event. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound lefty put together a loud round of BP, consistently finding the barrel, spraying line drives from gap-to-gap. Still developing power, which should come as he adds strength and mass to his frame, Newton produced a peak exit velocity of 87.8 mph. Defensively, his arm played true across the diamond with above-average strength for his age, peaking at 87 mph on his loudest throw - tops at the event. Additionally, Newton ran a 6.84 60 to lead the event as well
