Region Preview: Class AAA - Region II

By Greg Williams
WV Director of Scouting

With the start of the high school season is less than a month away we will be previewing each region in each classification statewide. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each region. Look for our initial Elite Eight team rankings in each classification to appear later this month.

                 Class AAA - Region II

Preseason Favorites

Jefferson (25-7) / Washington (23-5) / Musselman (16-14)

Washington road the right arm of Jared Silva (VMI) to a region title in 2014. Look for Jefferson to be the team to beat this year with Musselman returning enough talent to give both programs a run for their money. Jefferson returns Andy Disque (6-2), Austin Bulman (5-0), Dylan Carroll (4-1) and Austin Cross (3-2) to form one of the more formidable pitching staffs in Class AAA. Disque is a senior lefty, while the remaining three are just sophomores.  Andrew King (.430, 35 RBI) and Paul Witt (.443, 25 RBI, 33 runs) should lead the Cougars offense again.

preseason player of the year

Paul Witt, SS, Jefferson HS (Class of 2016)

Witt is a 6-foot, 160-pounder that has been an offensive force for the Cougars over two years of high school action. The right-handed hitter hit .317 as a freshman and improved to .443 in 2014. Witt drove in 25 and scored 33 runs during a standout sophomore campaign. He has shown above average defensive skills and plenty of arm strength to remain of the left side of the infield. Witt is ranked No. 6 in his class and has announced his commitment to continue his baseball career at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).
