Evolution Baseball Scout Day: Quick Hits

On Wednesday, April 3rd the Prep Baseball Alberta staff hosted the Evolution Baseball Scout Day at the Turf Training Centre in Leduc, Alberta. It gave players the opportunity to collect updated metrics via our tech partner TrackMan.
We broke down the top measurable data performers from the event with our Statistical Analysis Article. Now, we move onto this Quick Hits article as we provide scouting notes and video on five standouts from the event.

Matt Botticelli OF / 1B / Mother Margaret Mary, AB / 2025The 2025 OF/1B had one of the better rounds of BP at the Evolution Baseball Scout Day. At 6-foot-3, 170-pounds there’s plenty of room in his projectable frame to add strength. With a relaxed slide-step to get on time, he generates plenty of torque while maintaining controlled aggression. He primarily elevated back up the middle and to his backside gap, reaching a top exit velocity of 95 mph. Botticelli will be a player to follow this summer to see if that left handed swing translates to in-game success.

Jayden Chandler OF / RHP / Beaumont, AB / 2027Another intriguing 2027 out of Evolution Baseball is Jayden Chandler. The two-way OF/RHP had one of the better overall days at the scout day. It started on the mound where his athleticism was evident. He got up to 73 mph on the mound and showed off two unique breaking balls. A slider with horizontal break and a curveball with two-plane break. At the dish, the present bat-to-ball was evident as he worked on a line to the opposite field. Chandler has plenty of upside with the athleticism he possesses.

Hunter Schneider SS / RHP / Leduc Composite , AB / 2025Schneider had an impressive showing on the mound at the Evolution Baseball Scout Day. The 2025 RHP/SS has a low effort delivery with a long, loose arm. He was up to 76 mph with the fastball that had plenty of arm side run, averaging 15.2 inches of horizontal break. He tunneled two separate breaking balls well off of it, a slider that currently profiles more like a cutter, and a tight curveball with two-plane break. At the dish, he worked on a line to the big part of the field and to his pull-side. It’ll be interesting to see how his repertoire and ability on the mound translates in-game.

Josh Mills LHP / 1B / Leduc junior high, AB / 2027One of the top bullpens of the day came from 2027 Josh Mills. The athletic lefty has a quick arm and filled the zone with all 4 of his pitches. Mills sat 81-83 mph with the fastball, topping out at 84 mph. He offers two unique breaking balls, a slider that moves more laterally, and a curveball with slightly more depth to it. Although still a developing pitch, his splitter has the makings to be an effective swing & miss offering as he tunnels it well off the fastball while also killing spin and induced vertical break. As one of the top arms in Alberta’s 2-27 class, Mills will be one to follow over the next couple years.

Sidney Fillenberg RHP / 1B / Other, AB / 2025One of the more intriguing prospects in Alberta’s 2025 class is RHP Sydney Fillenberg. It starts with his very projectable 6-foot-7, 190-pound frame. With plenty of athleticism, he moves well generating extension down the mound. The fastball sits 78-80 mph and he spins two unique breaking balls. With a high release point, he has the ability to generate a steep vertical approach angle which will allow him to create weak ground ball contact. Fillenberg will be one to follow as he continues to develop and add strength to his frame.
