Alabama High School Team Preview: Faith Christian Lions

PBR Alabama Staff

The 2021 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. That excitement may be at an all-time high entering this high school season as the 2020 high school baseball season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season during an offseason unlike any other and as always, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Outlook:

The Lions have a chance to be put up a good number of runs as they return 4 of their top 5 hitters from 2020 as well as welcoming back 2 quality arms. Junior 1B/RHP Colton Pahman is one of those ket returners that will be counted on in a 2 way role. A year aho he had 5 HR's while hitting .520 with 21 hits and 20 RBI's in the shortened season. On the mound, the right hander went 2-2 with 21 K's/8 BB's and 1 save over 19 innings pitched. He was named 2nd team All County a year ago and hopes to replicate that success again this year. Senior C/INF Andrew Folsom is another key returnee that will be expected to have a big senior campaign. The 6'2 190 pounder hit .371 with 13 hits and 4 HR's a year ago. he also scored 7 runs while riving in 15 more. Another two way talent is junior Brodie Dodson. He will be counted on to provide an offensive spark this seaon after hitting .528 last season with 2 HR's and 11 RBI's. Last year he went 3-2 on the mound with 3o K's and only 4 BB's in 22 IP's. He ended the season with a 3.49 ERA. A couple of young players to keep an eye on are freshman C/INF Brady Whitworth and sophomore RHP/INF Ales Almanza. Whitworth will see time behind the plate and on the infield and can handle the bat very well on the offensive side. Almanza has good stuff on the mound and will see innings there as well as on the infield. He shows a solid set up and approach to the middle of the field with the bat. The Lions will be looking to compete in 1A with the return of several key pieces and some talented youngsters.
