MOBILE, AL - The South Alabama Games was held on Wednesday, July 13th at The Performance Lab in Mobile, AL. This event was an invite-only event that consisted of prospects from the 2023-2027 classes. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, participated in defensive evaluations, ran the 60 yard-dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens during the workout and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Wednesday.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from Wednesday. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release different statistical leaderboards for the event then transition into releasing individual scouting reports for each player in attendance.

OF Damien Gatson, Mobile Christian (AL), 2025
5-foot-11, 175-pounds. One of the top rising sophomores in the state of AL. Currently the No. 2-ranked prospect in the '25 class. Really athletic frame and actions all around, posted some of the top numbers in various statistical categories at the event. Possesses a smooth lefty stroke with a relaxed approach he showed during BP while using the whole field with firm contact. Proportional strength to the frame and still plenty of growth left to take place in the future. Showed solid athleticism during the workout running a 6.90 60 YD, an event-best. Also posted the second-best velocity on throws from the outfield at 86 mph. Easy one to follow with plenty of development and growth still left.

RHP/OF Michael Daniel, Auburn (AL), 2024
Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 160-pounds. Athletic and lean body with length, still plenty of room for added velocity and strength in the future. The right-hander filled up the zone with three above average offerings in his bullpen with a quick arm and H 3/4 slot. The uncommitted rising junior worked consistently at 85-86 mph with riding life (17-20 in. of IVM) and featured significant sinking action, especially when located to the arm-side. Daniel also spun a slider at 72-73 mph (2200 rpm) with solid command and quality 11-5 shape. Changeup at 75-76 mph worked well off the fastball with the same arm-side action. Quality uncommitted prospect in the '24 class in AL.

RHP/3B Carson Joyner, Bayside Academy (AL), 2024
Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 200-pounds. Strong, workhorse-type build with a physical lower-half. Continues to show impressive two-way ability with power stuff on the mound and a gap-to-gap approach from the right side of the plate. With some more upside on the mound, the right-hander worked consistently at 86 mph during his bullpen, and showed the ability to reach back and touch 89 mph on his last pitch. Features a slurvish-type breaking ball at 68-70 mph and turned over a few quality changeup's at 73-75 mph that will continue to get better as he speeds his arm action up. Banged balls to the pull side during BP posting a 94.2 mph exit velocity, an event-best.

RHP Parker Lomax, Daphne (AL), 2023
Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 180-pounds. Starter profile with room for added strength to frame and a quality feel for a four-pitch repertoire in his bullpen. Uses a well-paced delivery with a quick, compact arm action and soft landing on the front foot. Pitched at 84-85 mph (17-20 in of IVM) with some life when elevated in the zone and was consistently thrown for strikes. Slider at 73-74 mph (2300 rpm) seemed to be the better of the two breaking balls, with the other being a slower curveball at 65-66 mph (2450) with big 12-6 shape. Also mixed in 73-75 mph changeup and showed the ability to kill spin. Good uncommitted prospect to follow in the '23 class.

OF/C Rock Gearhart, Fairhope (AL), 2025
6-foot-1, 210-pounds. With the perfect first name to describe his physical stature, the rising sophomore has proportional strength throughout his frame and power potential from the right side of the plate. Simple setup from the right side of the plate, swings the barrel with some intent, using the whole field in his approach with the ability to repeat his swing consistently. Posted consistent low-90 EV's during his round of BP, and posted a top exit velocity at 94.1 mph, the second-best from the event. Although still fairly young, the rising sophomore still has some exciting offensive upside with power potential.
