Mizuno Player of the Week: Week 8

Each week during the high school season, we will be announcing the Mizuno Pitcher and Player of the Week for that particular week. Numerous players across the state continue to put up impressive numbers both as position players and pitchers on the mound. This year, we will be selecting one Pitcher of the Week and one Player of the Week based on nominations from high school coaches across the state. Special thank you to Mizuno for sponsoring both awards this season and for the high school coaches who nominated their players for this award.
Continuing from last year, we will also be highlighting other players from across the state in our Alabama Diamond Notes that we will release each Wednesday. Our Diamond Notes will highlight other players nominated by high school coaches that are deserving of recognition that were not named Mizuno Pitcher or Player of the Week.

Caiden Combs 1B / Gardendale, AL / 2025Rankings StateRank: 26 / POS: 2
Combs has often been known for having some of the biggest power in the 2025 class in Alabama, which he put on full display this past week while helping the Rockets clinch an area championship. An Auburn recruit, Combs is one of the top corner infielders in his class and posted some video-game numbers on the offensive side of the plate during their undefeated week of play. For the week, the junior was close to perfect going 13-for-14 (.929 batting average) with more than half of those hits going for extra bases. He slugged six doubles and a home run while also driving in 10 runs, as well. And to cap it off, the right-hander also tossed three scoreless innings with six strikeouts on the mound. Incredible week for the physical right-hander hitter. |
