Colorado 2027 Class Rankings: Spring Update

Caleb Dameron
Prep Baseball Colorado Staff

The spring 2024 rankings update consists of 40 players from the Colorado 2027 class. This group of prospects includes plenty of projectablilty throughout, high-end athletic arms, and a slew of stout catchers and position players overall. When creating our rankings, we consider various factors, such as skills, physical abilities, potential, projection, and on-field performance as well.

As the CHSAA spring season unfolds, we are excited to see how these players develop and are constantly looking for new talent within our state. We understand that each player progresses at their own pace, and we will update the rankings throughout the year. It's important to remember that each player has their journey, and the ultimate goal should always be to strive for continuous improvement.

TOP ARMS:

Will Hayes RHP / OF / Valor Christian , CO / 2027

Hayes holds strong as the #1 ranked player in the 2027 class as he continues to thrive this spring. The freshman has tossed 16 innings (leads his 5A Valor Christian program) with 21 strikeouts against some strong varsity teams. Hayes comes with quality athleticism already, a fastball in the upper 80s, and can spin the off-speed around 2500+ rpms. We expect Hayes to continue to gather national attention in 2024 as he develops.

Dylan Langstaff 1B / LHP / Douglas County, CO / 2027

Another young prospect who has done well with their 5A varsity time already this spring is left-hander Dylan Langstaff. The freshman has made 3 appearances in 2024 with 10.1 innings pitched, 9 strikeouts, and just a 0.68 ERA. Langstaff comes with strong pitchability, a fastball in the mid-to-upper 80s, and one of the highest ceilings in this class considering he does everything from the left-side. One to keep a close eye on moving forward.

Cooper Vais SS / RHP / Arvada West, CO / 2027

Vais was a preseason showcase darling thanks to some eye-popping metrics during this year's Northern Colorado ID. The Prep Baseball Colorado staff has now gotten eyes on Vais in-game this spring, and he did not dissapoint on the mound. Vais registered 8 strikeouts in 5 innings against Boulder early this season while his fastball was up to 85 mph. Vais also has exceptional spin on the mound for his age with around 2500-2600 rpms on all three of his fastballs, sliders, and curveballs. The full season line on Vais' pitching is now at 22.2 innings, 33 Ks, 6 walks, and a 1.54 ERA.

TOP RISERS:

Declan Moylett C / SS / Severance, CO / 2027

Moylett was a standout bat during last summer's Junior Future Games and he continues to crush the baseball for his varsity Severance program this spring. The freshman is now hitting .500 across 38 plate appearances to go along with his 1.153 OPS and 3 stolen bases. Moylett comes with a progressed hit tool from the left-side with quality actions and inscincts behind the plate. In a class where there are a plethora of impressive young catchers, Moylett leads the way with the best skill set at the moment.

Jackson Crawford OF / LHP / Mountain Vista, CO / 2027

The lefty has produced offensively for the 5A Mountain Vista baseball program this spring thanks to a .376 average and a .954 OPS across 39 plate appearances. Crawford has a confident stroke from the left-side with some whip in the bat and continues to develop exceptionally well at the varsity level.

Gavin Marsh OF / 2B / Mullen, CO / 2027

Marsh is now hitting .455 with 2 stolen bases and a 1.174 OPS across 26 plate appearances this spring for his varsity Mullen team. The freshman comes with an athletic build and plenty of feel for the game already. Should be a consistent riser as he continues to get better.

TOP NEWCOMERS:

Jack Sansone RHP / OF / Roosevelt, CO / 2027

Sansone comes soaring into the rankings with a strong showing during this year's Preseason All-State event. The 2027 prospect presented a fastball up to 87 mph with quality spin and feel of the full arsenal. We can also tell you that Sansone has tossed 10 varsity innings this spring with 15 strikeouts. Worth a close watch in 2024.

Michael Kroll RHP / 1B / Regis Jesuit, CO / 2027

Kroll is a standout athlete from the preseason events with plenty of advanced tools already. The freshman has produced a 95 mph top exit velocity, a 70.3 mph bat speed, has touched 86 mph on the mound, and 87 mph from the infield. The tall and athletic frame on Kroll gives him one of the higher ceilings moving forward as well.

JC Smith C / OF / Broomfield, CO / 2027

Another intriguing catcher to jump into the rankings is switch-hitter JC Smith. The Broomfield freshman has around a 90 mph top exit velocity from either side of the plate and a 1.96 top pop time. Smith also presents feel in the outfield and behind the plate to give him even more flexibility.
