Colorado Power 25 Rankings: Week 4

Caleb Dameron
Prep Baseball Colorado Staff

On Thursday, March 7th the Colorado spring season began play for all 5A-1A baseball programs. We continue our CHSAA Power 25 rankings with a look at how the teams have produced through the first four weeks. The Prep Baseball Colorado staff has diligently scouted players and teams throughout this spring, and will continue to work hard to bring the state top notch coverage on the baseball diamond. Colorado is flourishing with high-end baseball talent at the moment and is starting to gather more and more national recognition as well. We hope to continue all momenutum in the state while making an impact on the players and teams within.

#4 CHERRY CREEK

The Bruins recorded some solid wins last week as they beat Valor Christian and Regis Jesuit. Cherry Creek also beat Arvada West to make it a 3-0 week, and seem to be gaining momentum as we get into the heart of the Colorado schedules. This program has a slew of quality arms that should help them compete all season long, and the lineup has yet to be seen at their best. Look for Creek to continue to surge if they can keep things rolling.

#11 PRAIRIE VIEW

The Prep Baseball Colorado staff got a live look at the Thunderhawks last week when they took on a ranked Rocky Mountain program. Uncommitted juniors Fabian Gaeta (Prairie View) and Ross Frank (Rocky Mountain) were the respective starters in this one and both arms gave their teams chances to win as they each pitched into the 6th inning with only 3 earned runs. Both Gaeta and Frank ended up with 7 strikeouts as well, but the Thunderhawks broke things open in the 6th with a homerun by Jerry Stone, and another homer by Javi Gaeta later in the inning. Prairie View is led by a stout junior class right now and two arms that can hang with about anyone in Fabian Gaeta and Jerry Stone.

#20 BRIGHTON

The Bulldogs come surging into the rankings after a 6-2 start and quality wins over Mullen and Erie. This Brighton team has only been beaten by #2 ranked Rock Canyon, and a ranked Golden program this spring. The Waltemath brothers (Brandon and Austin) and Nick Griffin are helping carry this team as they head into the tougher stretch of their Front Range league schedule. We will see exactly where this program is after they take on Fort Collins and Fossil Ridge this week.

#25 PUEBLO CENTRAL

Another new team to this round-up of the rankings are the Pueblo Central Wildcats. The southern Colorado school is now 6-2 and has beaten Lewis-Palmer and Golden already this spring. The rest of the schedule for the Wildcats also bodes well for success, so we could see them stay in the rankings for a while if they can continue to win. One team to keep a close eye on this spring.
