Top 15 Players from Fort Wayne Top Prospect Showcase

On Sunday, October 21 Prep Baseball Report Indiana held its second Top Prospect Showcase of the fall at Carrington Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  The event featured prospects from across northern Indiana in the 2016, 2015, 2014, and 2013 classes.  Despite a chilly morning and damp conditions, many solid performances were turned in by many players.  Here is a look at the top 15 prospects from this past Sunday’s event.

TOP 15

1.  Dillin Diehm, 1B/OF, Garrett HS, 2015

Diehm is a highly projectable 6-foot-2, 190 pound athletic left-handed hitting first baseman.  At the plate he starts with a tall, open stance and shows a confident, quiet approach with a smooth load and short stride.  He possesses quick bat speed and gets to extension producing hard hit line drives with the ability to hit the gaps.  Diehm shows great power potential and projects well as a hitter in college.  In the field he works well around the bag and displays great foot work.  He possesses good arm strength at 81 mph.  Not only is Diehm one of the top hitters in the 2015 class, but he is one of the top 10 prospects overall. 

2.  Reid Schaller, RHP/SS, Lebanon HS, 2016

Schaller is a highly projectable 6-foot-2, 165 pound freshman right-handed pitcher.  He possesses a quick, strong arm on the mound with a heavy fastball that touches 84 mph.  He currently has two off speed pitches; a 72-73 mph curveball and a 76-77 mph changeup.  Both off speed pitches still need some development, but showed the ability to keep his changeup in the zone with some sink action.  He shows a lot of rawness, but possesses tons of upside, with a projectable frame and long limbs.  Schaller is a high follow in the 2016 class.

3.  Travis Herrin, RHP, Lebanon HS, 2013

Herrin is a 6-foot-1, 180 pound right-handed pitcher.  He throws from a ¾ arm slot with a quick, easy action.  Herrin’s fastball sits at 83-86 mph with some movement.  His best pitch is a plus breaking ball at 69-71 mph that shows a powerful late action.  His changeup sits at 75-77 mph.  Herrin has a smooth, easy delivery with good balance.  The right-hander possesses good upside and potential and is currently one of the top unsigned senior arms in the state. 

4.  Joseph Filosa, RHP, Fort Wayne Northrop, 2014

Filosa is a 6-foot-3, 170 pound right handed pitcher with a projectable frame and high ceiling.  He showed a solid fastball at 83-85 mph that was consistently in the zone from a high ¾ arm slot.  He has two off speed pitches in his arsenal; a 62-67 mph breaking ball that is a good out pitch, and a 74-76 mph changeup.

5.  Myles Hann, SS/2B, McCutcheon HS, 2014

Hann is a 6-foot-1, 175 pound middle infielder.  He displays good defensive actions and his hands work well enough to play up the middle at the next level.  Across the diamond he showed a good arm at 79 mph with some accuracy.  At the plate, Hann possesses a good, balanced approach, but is a little stiff .  His bat speed is quick, and has a short path to the baseball getting to extension well producing line drives. 

6.  Tyler Zimske, C/OF, Homestead HS, 2014

Zimske is an athletic catcher at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds.  He’s consistently 2.0-2.1 with his pop times, but has popped a 1.95 at a previous PBR showcase.  Zimske possesses good arm strength; 74 mph behind the plate and 83 from the outfield.  At the plate he displays a smooth load with a short stride.  He has good balance throughout his swing and shows good bat speed.  Zimske gets to extension well, and hits the ball hard producing line drives.   The junior catcher has good speed running a 7.2 sixty.

7.  Andrew Ray, C/3B, Michigan City HS, 2013

Ray is a 6-foot-1, 205 pound unsigned senior that shows good strength.  Behind the plate he showcased a pop time of 2.14 and strong arm at 75 mph.  At the plate he shows a wide base with a slightly open front side.  His swing is short and shows a level to uphill swing plane.  He turns on the ball well with some pop potential. 

8.  Paul Geha, RHP, Bishop Dwenger HS, 2013

Geha is a 6-foot-3, 190 pound right handed unsigned senior.  He possesses long limbs and a projectable body.  Geha’s delivery is a little jerky and tends to separate early at times.  He throws from a high ¾ arm slot, with a long arm action.  His fastball sits at 81-84 mph.  He shows an 11/5 breaking ball with gradual movement at 70-72 mph.  His other off speed pitch is a 78-80 mph changeup. 

9.  Joe Stukenborg, SS/OF, South Bend Clay HS, 2013

Stukenborg is a 6-foot-1, 175 pound unsigned senior.  He shows good athleticism and hands in the field along with a strong arm with tons of carry at 85 mph.  At the plate the ball jumps off his bat.  His bat speed is quick and displays good balance.  He’s uphill at times causing lots of top spin.  If he can refine his swing path, Stukenborg shows good pop potential at the next level. 

10.  Jagen Millspaugh, C/1B, Oak Hill HS, 2013

Millspaugh is a 6-foot-1, 205 pound unsigned senior catcher.  Behind the plate he receives the ball well and showcased a pop time of 2.26 along with good arm strength with carry at 77 mph.  From the left side of the plate, he gets to extension producing good pop, and has projectable power. 

11.  Joe Ault, RHP, Homestead HS, 2014

Ault is a 6-foot-5, 180 pound junior with a projectable body.  On the mound he throws from a low ¾ arm slot and gets his fastball up to 80 mph.  He throws three off speed pitches; a 63-67 mph breaking ball, 67-70 mph changeup and a 70-75 mph slider.  He showed the ability to throw all four pitches for a strike.   

12.  Trevor Snyder, 3B/OF, Fort Wayne Carroll HS, 2015

Snyder is a 6-foot-2, 165 pound sophomore with a projecatable frame.  In the field he showed the ability to move well and field most balls.  Across the diamond he showed an accurate arm at 71 mph.  Snyder excelled most at the plate where he is very aggressive and showed projectable pop.  He shows athleticism in his setup, and uses his lower half well.  His bat speed is quick, and shows a long path to the ball, but gets to extension producing hard hit line drives. 

13.  Christian Sullivan, RHP/3B, Lake Central HS, 2014

Sullivan is a 6-foot-2, 250 pound junior that shows good strength.  He moves well at third and his hands work.  Across the diamond he was 74 mph with good accuracy.  At the plate he starts with a tall, open setup and shows some pop. 

14.  Justin Blevens, C/3B, Clinton Central HS, 2013

Blevens is a 5-foot-8, 175 pound unsigned senior.  Behind the plate he showcased pop times in the 2.19-2.22 range.  He shows good arm strength at 77 mph. At the plate he displayed the ability to hit from both sides of the plate.  He possesses more power and pop from the left side where he starts his hands high, and uses a wide base with a leg kick for timing.    He has a tendency to get out front, but when he’s able to get his front foot down in time he shows some projectable pop. 

15.  Devon Sheward, 3B/RHP, Marion HS, 2014

Sheward is a 5-foot-10, 180 pound junior.  On the mound he’s a drop and drive pitcher that shows some athleticism in his delivery.  He’s a max effort type of pitcher that throws from a high ¾ arm slot with a short arm action.  Sheward’s fastball sits at 76-79 mph with good run, and showcased the ability keep it in the zone consistently.  He possesses a good 10/4 slider at 64-68 mph that he can throw for a strike.  His changeup is 70-72 mph.  Across the diamond he displays a strong, accurate arm at 80 mph.  At the plate Sheward starts with an athletic set up, standing tall with an open stance.  He’s a little heavy on his front foot and tends to open up at times, but does show some pop.
