Indiana Player of the Week : Week #2

Our Player of the Week honors will be awarded each week of the high school season. High school coaches will be asked to submit their candidate for Player of the Week after the conclusion of each week, please send all submissions to [email protected] for consideration for this award.

Our Week #2 honors goes to Junior RHP, Blane Metz, of Floyd Central HS. 


Blane Metz RHP / Floyd Central, IN / 2025

Metz had a dominant week on the mound, first collecting a win in relief against Jasper, coming out of the bullpen to strike out 2 in a scoreless inning of work. Metz toed the rubber against Columbus East on Saturday and was just one walk away from a perfect game. The Indiana commit picked up the win by pitching seven scoreless, hitless innings - striking out 18. In total, his final line for the week was : 8 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 20 K, 2-0 W/L.

 

 


Honorable Mentions

Dillon Stewart, RHP, Junior, Tr-Township

Stewart earned the win for Tri-Township against Culver, going the distance for a complete game, no-hitter, with astounding strikeout numbers. All but one out was not a strikeout, 20 strikeouts in total for Stewart, and he allowed just one run on two walks. 

Ryan Rodman, C, Sophomore, Western

The sophomore is beginning to come into his own and had a breakout week this week for Western. Rodman went 9 of 14 (.643) with a double, home run, and 9 RBIs on the week, helping Western to a 3-0 start.

Tyler Klemme, MIF/RHP, Senior, Benton Central

Klemme had a monster series vs Rensselaer Central, collecting two hits in game one, including a grand slam, and picking up 5 RBI. In the second game of the series, Klemme threw a no-hitter, striking out 14 in 5 IP, allowing just one walk. 

Gabe Skelton, 1B, Senior, West Vigo

Skelton had a monster night against Newton HS out of Illinois. The Lincoln Trail recruit went 4 for 4, clubbing three home runs, and collecting 9 RBI in a 14-3 West Vigo win. 

Logan Cotton, RHP, Junior, Crown Point

Cotton tossed a perfect game in his start against Michigan City, striking out nine in five perfect innings. He also worked another scoreless inning later in the week, striking out 3. In total, the Indiana recruit went : 6 IP, 12 K, 1 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 1-0 W/L.

Jack Brown, RHP, Senior, Fishers

A preseason favorite for Indiana's Player of the Year, Brown had a big week for Fishers. At the plate, the Louisville recruit went 7 for 14 (.500) with a double and a home run. Brown also took a tough-luck loss vs Zionsville, throwing seven innings of 1-run baseball, allowing just two hits and two walks, striking out twelve. 

Blake Smythe, LHP, Sophomore, Franklin Community

Smythe earned a complete game shutout to send Franklin to the Johnson County Tournament Championship. Smythe worked seven scoreless innings, striking out ten, while allowing one hit and four walks. 

Bryson Dorsey, C/UTL, Senior, Guerin Catholic

A Depauw recruit, Dorsey helped Guerin to a 2-1 record this week, going 5 for 8 (.625) with three triples, five RBI, and five runs scored. 

Drew McTagertt, C/UTL, Junior, Harrison

McTagertt reached base in every trip he took to the plate in Week #2. The uncommitted junior went 5 for 5 with five singles, a walk, an HBP, three stolen bases, and scored three runs while driving in two. 

Charlie Sollars, RHP/OF, Junior, Andrean

Sollars helped Andrean to a perfect, 5-0 week. He earned the win in his start on the mound, striking out ten in 5.2 shutout innings. Sollars also went 4 for 9 (.444) with all four hits going for extra bases. Sollars collected three doubles, a triple, while driving in nine and getting on base at a .615 clip.

Josh Lesniewski, LHP, Junior, Hamilton Southeastern

Lesniewski picked up the win in HSE's second conference game, completing the conference sweep over Brownsburg. The uncommitted junior worked 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and a walk, striking out seven.

Ryker Hughes, RHP/OF, Senior, Bedford North Lawrence

The University of Indianapolis signee tossed six scoreless innings en route to the win, allowing just one hit and striking out seven. On top of a solid performance on the mound, Hughes also went 3 for 4 at the dish with two doubles, a home run, and he drove in two. 

Jack Hamilton, CF, Senior, Adams Central

The senior came up big for Adams Central this week, posting a .500 batting average. Hamilton collected a double, a triple, three walks, drove in five runs, scored 8 runs of his own, and was nine for nine on stolen base attempts. 

Christian Klug, SS, Senior, Bishop Chatard

The Navy recruit continues to swing a hot bat for Chatard, this week going 6 for 9 (.667) with two doubles, two stolen bases, and four runs scored, helping the Trojans to a 4-0 week. 

Mateo Wells, RHP, Senior, Zionsville

The High Point signee led Zionsville to a 1-0 win in their conference opener. Wells threw a complete game shutout against #5 Fishers, allowing just three hits and three walks, striking out seven in the win. 

Beckett Doane, LHP, Sophomore, Noblesville

Doane turned in a quality start in a top-ranked matchup between #2 Mooresville and #6 Noblesville. The highly-ranked sophomore earned the win against one of the top offenses in the state, striking out ten in five innings of work.
