Indiana Player of the Week : Week #4

Our Player of the Week honors will be awarded each week of the high school season. High school coaches will be asked to submit their candidate for Player of the Week after the conclusion of each week, please send all submissions to [email protected] for consideration for this award.

Our Week #4 honors goes to C Riley Matlock of Southport High School.


Riley Matlock C / Southport High School, IN / 2026

Matlock collected 8 hits in 10 trips to the plate (.800) last week, and he reached base in 12 of 14 (.857). The physical sophomore catcher had six extra-base hits, including three home runs and three doubles, and he drove in eleven runs for the Cardinals. 

 

 

Honorable Mentions

Hogan Denny, C/RHP, Mooresville, Senior

Denny had a breakout week for the #5 ranked Pioneers. The Indiana recruit went 11 for 21 (.521) with four doubles, two triples, a home run, and ten RBIs. Denny also added a win in his start on the mound - striking out twelve in six innings pitched. 

Corbin Snyder, RHP, Eastern, Senior

Snyder logged nine innings on the bump last week, striking out twenty-two (22) batters and allowing just two hits, one run, and one walk. The Butler signee tossed a complete game shutout in his start, and proceeded to come out of the bullpen to collect two saves later in the week. 

Max Engle, LHP, Westview, Junior

Engle toed the rubber for Westview twice last week, emerging victorious in both starts. Engle struck out twenty-six (26) batters in 11.1 innings pitched, allowing just one run and four hits. 

Griffin Tobias, RHP/DH, Lake Central, Senior

Tobias led Lake Central to a bounce-back, 4-0 week, with series sweeps over LaPorte and 4A #11 Penn. The Indiana recruit earned a win in a complete game shutout versus LaPorte, tossing eight scoreless frames with zero walks, three hits, and thirteen (13) punch outs. Tobias also added a 6 for 12 (.500) week at the dish batting in the middle of the Indians' order. 

Kale Wemer, RHP, Crawfordsville, Senior

Wemer had a week to remember - collecting two wins in thirteen innings pitched. Committed to play at Purdue next season, Wemer struck out twenty-three (23) in his two starts, and he held opposing hitters to a 0.091 batting average in the two starts combined. 

Peyton Dickens, OF/RHP, Whiteland, Junior

The uncommitted junior has gotten off to a hot start for the Warriors. Dickens went 9 for 14 (.642) on the week, clubbing two doubles and a triple, while scoring eight runs and driving in six. Dickens also added four stolen bases, plus a win on the mound where he struck out eight in 5.2 IP.

Brendin Oliver, RHP, Mooresville, Senior

Oliver had a huge performance against conference-foe, Perry Meridian, where he tossed a no-hitter. The Cincinnati recruit struck out fourteen (14) in his complete game shutout. 

Jayce Lee, OF, South Bend Saint Joseph, Senior

The Notre Dame signee collected eight hits on the week, including six for extra bases. Lee went 8 for 20 (.400) with four doubles, two home runs, and he drove in fourteen (14) for 3A #9 South Bend Saint Joseph. 

Dillon Stewart, RHP, Tri-Township, Junior

A repeat performer on this list, Stewart tossed his second no-hitter of the season this week, striking out thirteen (13) in five innings pitched, and he was one walk away from a perfect game. 

Landen Fry, INF, Fort Wayne Snider, Junior

The Indiana recruit has gotten off to a hot start in his junior campaign, going 8 for 16 (.500) this week with a pair of doubles and eleven runs driven in. 

Sammy Swank, RHP, McCutcheon, Sophomore

Swank has been a huge for the Mavericks, helping them rise to #2 in our 4A polls with a perfect, 10-0 record. The Kentucky recruit picked up a win against crosstown-rival Harrison, where he allowed zero runs in 6.1 IP and struck out eleven (11). 

Ian Taylor, OF, Guerin Catholic, Sophomore

Taylor helped 3A #6 Guerin Catholic to a 4-1 week, including a sweep of conference-foe Brebeuf. The athletic, uncommitted sophomore went 9 for 16 (.563) with three doubles, a triple, four RBI, and five runs scored, batting out of the Guerin leadoff spot. 

Jack Peine, RHP, Mt. Vernon, Senior

Peine led the Marauders to an 8-0 win over Delta, throwing a complete game, no-hitter, with ten strikeouts and no walks. Peine was an error and two HBP's away from a perfect game. 

Reid Howard, SS/RHP, Forest Park, Senior

Howard is the leader of the 2A #2 Forest Park Rangers and paced the offense this week. The Western Kentucky recruit collected 9 hits in 17 trips to the dish (.529). A 2A Preseason All-State selection, Howard drove in eight runs, and four of his eight hits went for extra bases (2 doubles, 2 home runs). 

Ryan Williams, OF, Heritage Christian, Senior

The senior left-handed hitter enjoyed a huge week for Heritage Christian, going 11 for 17 (.647). Williams collected a double, a triple, a home run, four stolen bases, and scored five runs on the week. 

Dillon Heaton, LHP, Clinton Central, Sophomore

Heaton threw a complete game, no-hit shutout in a win versus conference opponent Taylor. The sophomore struck out seventeen (17) in this performance, and also added five hits on the week on the offensive side of the ball.  

LJ Bevier, SS, Elkhart Christian Academy, Senior

On the weekend in two wins over Argos, Bevier went 8 for 9 (.889) with eight RBI and four doubles.

Matthew Berry, C, Frankfort, Sophomore

Berry led the Hot Dogs to a 3-0 week, where he went 7 for 9 (.778) with two doubles, a triple, a homer, and he reached base at a .846 clip. 

Braden Kauffman, SS, Westview, Senior

Kauffman paced the Westview offense and is a repeat performer on this list. The Huntington recruit batted .636 on the week, clubbing three homers, while driving in seven and scoring nine runs. 

Shawn Nowacki, SS, Mishawaka, Junior

Nowacki was a standout when our staff saw Mishawaka earlier in the season. The junior shortstop hit .462 batting out of the leadoff spot, reaching base at a .632 clip, and he swiped six bags. 

Jake Arnett, 1B, Bloomington South, Senior

A run-producer in the middle of the Panthers' lineup, Arnett went 7 for 11 (.636) for the week with a double, a home run, and he drove in 8.

Miles Brockhouse, 1B, Dekalb, Freshman

The freshman had a huge week for Dekalb as he went 10 for 13, batting .769 for the week. Brockhouse added two doubles and four RBI, and he reached base at a .824 clip

Dalton Reedy, RHP, Brownstown Central, Junior

Brownstown Central had a bounce-back, 5-0 week and the Braves were led by Junior RHP Dalton Reedy. Reedy tossed nine scoreless innings, striking out twelve (12) and allowed just one hit and three walks. 

Dean Mason, C/3B, Hamilton Heights, Senior

Mason clubbed four (4) home runs for Hamilton Heights this week, going 9 for 14 (.643) in total. Mason also added a double, scored seven runs, and collected twelve (12) RBI. 

Cal Gates, OF, Bedford North Lawrence, Junior

The Indiana recruit had a big week at the dish for the Stars, going 7 for 14 (.500) with a double, a home run, seven runs scored, and four stolen bases. Gates reached base in 13 of 20 trips (.650) batting out of the BNL leadoff spot. 

Grady Nelson, 3B/1B, Warsaw, Freshman

The freshman slugger has gotten off to great start in his debut season. This week, Nelson collected two doubles and a homer run (3rd of the season), while driving in five and scoring seven times.
