2024 Team Preview: Ouachita Christian School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the bayou state.  Each week, we will be releasing our players of the week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, and many more pieces of content.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook

Ouachita Christian finished last year with a 28-8 overall record and entered the LHSAA Select D-IV playoffs as the #1 seed.  The Eagles avenged their 2022 state title loss by defeating Ascension Catholic by a score of 8-0 to win the 2023 State Title.  The good news for Eagles fans is that Head Coach Rob Devinney and company return an experience group this spring that includes six position players and five pitchers from last year's state title team.  On the mound, Ouachita Christian will get back the ace of their staff in junior RHP Karson Trichel.  The LSU recruit has been the Eagles #1 on the mound since his freshman year and has been the starting pitcher in each of the last two state championship games.  Trichel will also play first base and hit in the middle of the Eagles order.  Senior Jett Hudnall is another guy that Coach Devinney is excited to have back, as he tells us that he can do just about anything on a baseball diamond.  The South Arkansas CC recruit has a mid-80's FB and is a really good runner who can play any position on the field.  Fellow senior Tucker Stutts is another veteran presence that will play third base and pitch for the Eagles this season.  The backbone of this year's team is without a doubt senior Zac White.  The UL-Monroe recruit and former Future Gamer is a two-time All-State selection and brings a wealth of experience behind the plate, and is an invaluable leader on the field.  Ouachita Christian has won two out of the last three state titles and returns quite a bit from last year's state title team, so we fully expect them to be back at the state tournament this spring with the chance to win their third state title in the last four years.
