With the conclusion of the 2016 regular season, it is time to release the Prep Baseball Report Louisiana First-Team All-State selections. The Player of the Year and the Pitcher of the Year will be announced at the conclusion of the playoffs.

Catcher

+ Keelyn Johnson, Pineville HS(2016)
Louisiana State recruit, currently ranked No. 7 in Louisiana’s 2016 class and No. 143 overall. A 5-foot-10, 165-pound catcher with a strong, athletic frame. Outstanding defender with soft hands, quick footwork, quick transfer, and stays athletic. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and plus life on throws that produced a positional velocity of 79 mph and a pop time of 1.8 seconds. Right-handed hitter that hits from athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half, and excellent balance. Gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, level path and explosive bat speed, producing an exit velocity of 92 mph. Also runs a 7.12 60 yard dash. Johnson finished the year hitting .394 with 7 HR, 29 RBI and threw out 16 of 29 base stealers.

Infield

+ Jake Slaughter, Ouachita Christian HS(2016)
Louisiana State recruit, currently ranked No. 1 in Louisiana’s 2016 class, No. 59 overall. A 6-foot-2, 198-pound infielder with a strong, athletic frame. Outstanding defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange and plays through balls athletically. Loose arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 82 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half and solid balance. Gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, level path and explosive bat speed, producing an exit velocity of 97 mph. Quality athlete that also runs a 6.66 60 yard dash. Slaughter finished the season hitting .418 with 4 HR, 9 doubles, 29 RBI and stole 26 bases on 28 attempts.

+ Josh Smith, Catholic(BR) HS(2016)
Louisiana State recruit, currently ranked No. 6 in Louisiana’s 2016 class, No. 141 overall. A 5-foot-9, 170-pound infielder with an average, athletic frame. Outstanding defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, quick and clean exchange, and plays through balls well. Loose arm action into ¾ release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 84 mph. Left-handed hitter that hits from a tall setup, smooth load, leg kick, and solid lower half. Line-drive type hitter with fluid rhythm, level path and bat speed, producing an exit velocity of 87 mph. Also runs a 6.79 60 yard dash. Smith finished the year hitting .350 with 5 HR.

+ Hayden Cantrelle, Teurlings Catholic HS(2017)
Louisiana Lafayette recruit, currently ranked No. 9 in Louisiana’s 2017 class, No. 202 overall. A 5-foot-10, 165-pound short-stop with an average, athletic frame. Switch hitter that hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half, and excellent balance. Shows a compact, flat bat path with line-drive, gap to gap approach, fluid rhythm and bat speed, producing an exit velocity of 81 mph. Quality defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, quick, clean exchange and plays through balls well. Shows solid arm strength out of a high-3/4 arm slot that produced an 80 mph positional velocity with accuracy on throws. Cantrelle finished the season hitting .379 with 9 XBH, 21 RBI, 35 runs scored and stole 17 of 20 bases.

+ Zach Watson, West Ouachita HS(2016)
Louisiana State recruit, currently ranked No. 2 in Louisiana’s 2016 class, No. 81 overall. A 6-foot, 170-pound infielder and outfielder with a lean, athletic frame. Fast twitch athlete with game changing speed that runs a 6.5 60 yard dash and a 4.00 home to 1st time. Right-handed hitter with short, compact swing, flat path, and finds the barrel consistently. Line-drive type hitter with fluid rhythm and bat speed, prouducing a 97 mph exit velocity. Solid defender with average hands, fluid footwork and plays through balls well. Long arm action into mid-3/4 release with accuracy on throws and a positional velocity of 87 mph from both the outfield and infield.

+ Gavin Dugas, Houma Christian HS(2018)
Currently ranked No. 4 in Louisiana’s 2018 class, No. 176 overall. A 5-foot-9, 180-pound infielder with a strong, athletic frame. Quality defender with average hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange and plays through balls athletically. Short, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 81 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced setup, smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half and quality balance. Line-drive, gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, level path and explosive bat speed, producing an exit velocity of 89 mph. Also rus a 4.2 home to 1st and 6.82 60 yard dash. Dugas finished the year hitting .526 with 10 HR, 9 2B, 36 RBI, 1.241 SLG and an OPS of 1.893.

Outfield

+ Daniel Cabrera, John Curtis HS(2017)
Louisiana State recruit, currently ranked No. 1 in Louisiana’s 2017 class, No. 5 overall. One of the premier left-handed hitters in the entire country, is a well-known player on the national scene having been the final cut on the 18U Team USA squad as an underclassman. A 6-foot, 170-pound outfielder with an athletic, strong frame. Left-handed hitter with advanced hit tool, bat speed, quality leverage in swing, and advanced hand-eye coordination. Hits to all fields with backspin. Balanced, athletic setup, standing slightly open with leg kick, fluid rhythm, flat bat path and explosive bat speed. Quality defender with soft hands, fluid footwork and displays solid tracking instincts. Quality athlete that plays fast, running consistent 4.2 home to 1st times, with a top time of 3.9. Cabrera finished the season hitting .405 with 3 HR, 13 doubles, 20 RBI and 21 runs scored.

+ Jacob Pearson, West Monroe HS(2017)
Mississippi State recruit, currently ranked No. 3 in Louisiana’s 2017 class, No. 16 overall. A 6-foot, 185-pound outfielder with an athletic, strong build with present fast twitch actions. Outstanding overall athlete that runs an impressive 6.5 60 yard dash. Left-handed hitter that hits from a balanced, athletic setup with a smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half and excellent balance. Displays lightning quick bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 100 mph. Line-drive type hitter that showed advanced pull power potential. Solid defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, plays through balls well, but lacks in arm strength. Pearson finished the year with a .500 batting average, 4 HR and 19 XBH.

+ Nick Webre, Teurlings Catholic HS(2017)
Louisiana State recruit, currently ranked No. 6 in Louisiana’s 2017 class, No. 152 overall. A 5-foot-10, 185-pound outfielder with a strong, physical frame. Solid defender with average hands, clean exchange and plays through balls well. Long arm action into ¾ release with accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 80 mph. Left-handed hitter that hits from a crouch, smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half, and solid balance. Gap to gap type hitter, fluid rhythm, slightly uphill path that creates quality extension and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 92 mph. Also runs a 7.00 60 yard dash. Webre finished the season hitting .406 with 4 HR, 33 RBI and an OPS of 1.156.

Pitcher

+ Blayne Enlow, St. Amant HS(2017)
Louisiana State recruit, currently ranked No. 1 in Louisiana’s 2017 class, No. 7 overall. A 6-foot-3, 165-pound right-handed pitcher with a long, lean, athletic frame with room to add strength. Clean, easy arm action into a high-3/4 release with little effort. Smooth rhythm with level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sits 89-91 mph, touching 94 mph with heavy sink and command. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with sharp, late break, tight spin and deception at 77-80 mph. Flashes changeup with fastball arm speed and fade action at 80-83 mph. Enlow finished the year 4 and 3 with a 1.25 ERA in 44.2 innings, striking out 65 and only allowing 26 hits.

+ Landon Marceaux, Destrehan HS(2018)
Louisiana State recruit, currently ranked No. 1 in Louisiana’s 2018 class, No. 15 overall. A 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed pitcher with an average, athletic frame. Long, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and easy effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sits 87-90 mph, touching 92 mph with late sink and advanced command. Shows two breaking balls, one with 10/4 shape, tight spin, fastball arm speed and sharp break at 78-80 mph, and another with 11/5 shape, tight spin and quality depth at 73-75 mph. Also shows advanced feel for changeup with fastball arm speed and fade action at 79-81 mph. Marceaux finished the season 6 and 0 with 2 saves in 51 innings, allowing only 22 hits, striking out 58, and a 0.54 ERA.

+ Matthew Beck, Alexandria HS(2016)
Louisiana State recruit, currently ranked No. 9 in Louisiana’s 2016 class, No. 189 overall. A 6-foot-8, 210-pound right-handed pitcher with a large, strong frame with long limbs and projection. Long, clean arm action into high-3/4 release with regular effort and outstanding angle. Fastball sits 87-90 mph, touching 93 mph with quality life. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with tight spin and depth at 75-76 mph. Beck finished the season 5 and 2 with a 2.07 ERA and 78 strikeouts.

Utility

+ Bo Hardin, Lafayette HS(2017)
Currently ranked No. 16 in Louisiana’s 2017 class. A 6-foot, 150-pound infielder and right-handed pitcher with a lean, athletic frame. Outstanding defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, and quick, clean exchange. Loose arm action into ¾ release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 86 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from an athletic setup, smooth load, leg kick, explosive lower half and solid balance. Line-drive type hitter with fluid rhythm, level path and bat speed, producing an exit velocity of 86 mph. Also runs a 4.2 home to 1st time. Right-handed pitcher with long, loose arm action into mid-3/4 release with quick arm speed and easy effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sits 85-87 mph with command and occasional life. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with near fastball arm speed at 69-70 mph. In addition, shows a slider with 10/4 shape, tight spin, and depth at 75-76 mph. Also flashes changeup with fastball arm speed and fade action at 76-77 mph. Hardin finished the season 8 and 0 with 51.2 innings, a 0.813 ERA and 3.2 strikeout to walk ratio, also hitting .348.
