Top Prospect Games: Catcher Analysis

The Top Prospect Games took place over the summer at Northlake Christian School. The event hosted several of the top players from around the state in a pro style workout including defensive positional workouts, batting practice and 60-yard dash. The event finished up with a game where our staff was able to take in live competitive action. To wrap up  event coverage, we will release a position analysis of all in attendance beginning first with catchers. 

Top Prospect Games: Catchers

Hayden Harmon C / RHP / Glenbrook, LA / 2023

Average 5-foot-10, 175-pound frame with projection and some physicality in frame. Left-handed hitter hits from a wide, slightly closed stance with hands held high. Simple load into back knee creating uphill shoulder tilt while maintaining quality balance. Hands load from high to around the back shoulder into a flat barreled swing with an on plane path and quality extension through contact. Nice left-handed strong with average bat speed producing  an exit velocity of 92 mph. Behind the dish, works form a wide base with average receiving skills. Exchanges were clean and the baseball really jumps out of his hand as he posted a 2.10-2.15 pop time and a 76 mph positional velocity form behind the plate. Developing athlete. Posted a 7.40 60-yard dash time.


Britt Jordan C / West Monroe, LA / 2021

Physical 5-foot-11, 190-pound frame with a strong, catcher’s build. Right-handed hitter that hits from a wide stance using a small reach step load. Minimal stride while loading hands into a solid hitting position. Loads into backside well, maintaining balance throughout the swing. Utilizes the lower half well as he forcefully delivers the barrel through the hitting zone with solid average bat speed. Slightly rotational swing with a pull approach and power potential. Flashes a slightly uphill, on-plane path with strength at contact and extension through the baseball, posting an exit velocity of 90 mph. Bends well behind the dish with a strong base and solid athleticism. Quality receiver with soft hands and strength in forearms. Clean exchanges, getting the baseball out of the mitt quickly and on target, posting a 1.97-2.05 pop time with 72 mph arm strength. Solid athlete, turned in a 7.30 60-yard dash. 


Ethan Menard C / 3B / Notre Dame, LA / 2021

Physical 6-foot-0, 190-pound frame with present strength in build. Right handed hitter hits from a balanced, slightly open stance using a high leg kick to create momentum and to get to even landing soft on front foot. Lays barrel down slightly to get on plane before flashing solid average bat speed on a physical pass with a slightly uphill path. Flashed big time juice and high-end power potential in a swing that registered a 98 mph exit velocity on TrackMan. On the infield, showed solid footwork and fringy actions with big arm strength, registering 88 mph across the infield. Behind the dish, works from a balanced athletic setup. Showed above average receiving skills with clean transfers and advanced footwork. Short compact arm action into a high-¾ release at 82 mph with a pop time of 1.97-2.03. Ran a 7.40 60-yard dash.


Evan Rohlfs C / SS / French Settlement , LA / 2021

Average 5-foot-11, 160-pound frame with wiry, catcher’s build and room to add strength. Right-handed hitter hits from a balanced, even stance using a small leg lift to start the swing while remaining centered with slight internal rotation. Simple hand load from top to bottom of back shoulder into a low effort swing with a slightly uphill path with easy, average bat speed and average strength in swing, posting an exit velocity of 88 mph. Behind the dish, body lends well to the catching position, lower hips and center of gravity with joint flexibility. Folds up well into an athletic, balanced catching position. Soft hands with strength in wrists, stops the baseball well. Clean, quick exchanges at the chest into a compact, catcher’s arm action and a quick high-¾ release with average carry and advanced accuracy, posted a 1.90-1.99 pop time with 76 mph arm strength. Ran a 7.23 60-yard dash. 


Logan Serpas C / OF / Bowling Green, LA / 2021

Solid 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame with catcher’s build and present strength in build. Right-handed hitter hits from a wide, balanced stance using knee-to-knee leg lift to start the swing while remaining centered. Makes a strong forward movement on the baseball landing hard on the front foot while getting into the ground to create leverage. Hands load to around the back shoulder while laying the barrel down and working on a flat, on plane path. Has some head movement that could lead to timing issues and possible swing and miss but creates strength at contact and pull-side power potential, posted an exit velocity of 93 mph. Behind the dish, shows solid hip flexibility. Bends ok into a balanced catching position. Angled setup to aid in footwork for quicker transfer, solid receiver with medium exchange into a high-¾ release with average carry and accuracy, posted a 2.11 top pop time with 74 mph arm strength. Ran a 7.42 60-yard dash.


Michael Swan C / OF / Northlake Christian, LA / 2021

Physical 5-foot-10, 185-pound frame with strong build. Right-handed hitter hits from a wide, slightly closed stance using small lift and replace stride to start the swing while remaining centered. Simple hand load to around the back shoulder while laying the barrel down and working on a on plane rotational path. Flashed solid bat speed while posting an exit velocity of 82 mph. Shows solid flexibility behind the plate. Balanced, stable catching position, solid receiver, separates the catch and throw, with medium exchange into a high-¾ release with solid carry and accuracy, posted a 2.19 top pop time with 64 mph arm strength. Ran a 7.22 60-yard dash.
