Baton Rouge Preseason ID: Preview Story

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Zachary, LA - On Saturday, January 20, 2024, the PBR Louisiana staff will travel to the Zachary Youth Park, in Zachary, LA, to host the Baton Rouge Preaseason ID.  This event is our second event of the new year and is set to host over 50 players, which includes some familiar names and fresh faces that we're excited to see.

EVENT HISTORY

Last January, we held our Baton Rouge Preseason ID at the same exact place that this year's event will be held, at the Zachary Youth Park, home of the Zachary High School Broncos.  That event helped us identify prospects that had made significant jumps in their development, as well as new prospects, ahead of the 2023 spring high school baseball season.  There ended up being three prospects, from last year's Baton Rouge Preseason ID, who ended up being selected to be members of our Future Games team last summer.  2025 RHP Cade Durbin (Parkview Baptist HS) impressed us with his athletic delivery and aptitude for spin.  2025 MIF Brock Laird (Natchitoches Central HS) showed increased physicality at this time last year and that helped propel him towards a big spring and summer, which help lead to his eventual commitment to Southeastern Louisiana University this past fall.  2025 LHP Bryce Wilson (Chalmette HS) caught our eye due to his supreme pitchability and quick arm action.  Wilson committed to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette this past fall as well.

LOOKING AHEAD TO SATURDAY

There's a handful of players headed to Zachary, LA on Saturday who we've seen before and are excited to get an up-to-date look at, as well as some new faces.  Let's check out a couple of those players below.

+ 2025 INF/OF Kaul Perkins (Oak Forest Academy)

Packs a large punch in a 5'10" 180 lbs. frame.  The former Future Gamer is one of the top uncommitted prospects in the state's 2025 class, thanks to a combination of power and speed.  Perkins has been clocked as low as a 6.75 in the 60 and has also been up to 90 mph from the OF and 89 from the INF.  Offensively, he displays quick hands and present bat speed with a gap to gap approach that results in exit velocities up to 96 mph.

+ 2025 C Andrew Clapinski (Catholic BR HS)

We last saw the 5'10" 180 lbs. backstop at our Baton Rouge Summer Open, where he showed marked improvements in several areas of his game, so we're excited to see the jumps that he's made over the fall.  The Catholic BR product is a versatile defender and will likely see time both in the infield and behind the plate for the Bears this spring.  "Clap" has an innate ability to manipulate and control the barrel and covers the entire strike zone really well.

+ 2025 OF Jesse Lord (Central BR HS)

Athletic 5'11" 185 lbs. frame with a lot of fast-twitch.  Lord recently caught our eye at a Knights Knation Showcase, so when we saw that he signed up for this Saturday's event, we were extremely excited.  The left-handed hitter works from a really simple set-up and uses a no-stride load, which allows him to repeat his swing really well, while driving the baseabll to all fields.
