Lake Charles Preseason ID: Quick Hits

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Moss Bluff, LA - Our last event of the preseason was held this past Sunday January 21, 2024 at Sam Houston High School for our Lake Charles Preseason ID.  This event consisted of uncommitted high school prospects in the 2024-2027 classes.  Today, we continue our post-event coverage of the event with another edition of Quick Hits, which focuses on some of the prospects that caught our eye.  Be sure to follow us, on all of our social media platforms, for continued coverage of the Lake Charles Preseason ID!

SULPHUR PROSPECTS SHINE

+ 2025 INF/RHP Jackson Beddoe (Sulphur HS)

The former PBR Future Gamer showed up Sunday noticeably more physical and it showed in his performance.  Beddoe blistered balls from gap to gap with a direct path to contact, while staying on-plane through extension with a two-handed finish, that resulted in exit velocities up to 96.3 mph.  On the mound, however, is where the Sulphur product really provided an eye-opening look, as he worked his FB up to 91 mph, while landing his secondary offerings for strikes.  College recruiters who liked Beddoe at last summer's Future Games will like him even more this spring.

+ 2025 RHP Slade Shove-Knox (Sulphur HS)

Athletic 6'0" 165 lbs. frame with room to continue to add strength.  We first saw Shove-Knox at our State Games event last fall where he impressed, and he showed well again on Sunday.  The Sulphur product repeats his delivery and is an athletic mover down the slope with a quick arm.  He sat 83-86 mph with his FB that showed good life through the zone and he also showed the ability to sink the ball to his arm-side.  His feel for spin is his real separator, as he was able to land both a CB and SL, that each had different shapes with spin rates in the 2751-2897 RPM range.  He's a must-see uncommitted junior this spring for college recruiters.

OTHER UNCOMMITTED PROSPECTS TO FOLLOW THIS SPRING

+ 2026 RHP Gavin Foreman (Acadiana HS)

Durable and physical 6'1" 215 lbs. frame.  The Acadiana product showed some pop off the bat with exit velocities up to 91.4 mph.  On the mound, however, is where he really showed some upside and promise.  In chilly conditions, Foreman sat 84-86 mph with his FB and was able to land it consistently to the glove-side.  He also showed feel for a CUT, CB, and CH.

+ 2025 INF Brecken Bordelon (St. Louis Catholic HS)

Athletic 6'1" 170 lbs. frame.  The St. Louis Catholic product is another guy who showed up noticeably stronger.  At the plate, he works from an upright stance and uses a simple load and stride before delivering a direct path to contact, while staying flat through extension.  Bordelon showed well defensively and showed increased arm strength working up to 86 mph from the outfield.
