PREP BASEBALL LOUISIANA POWER 25 RANKINGS (WEEK 3)

The Louisiana high school baseball season kicked off on Monday February 19, 2024 with regular season action beginning under LHSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we published our team previews ahead of the 2024 spring season, touching on programs spanning all classifications, counting down through the official Prep Baseball Louisiana Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Since Opening Day, our scouts have been out and about covering the 2024 season and will be publishing scout blogs and additional in-season content, such as our Power 25 updates, Player of the Week awards, Scout Blogs, Diamond Notes, and more.

The Top 5

 

The Top 5 has again undergone some changes after the second week of the high school season, but not as many as last week.  Catholic BR is our #1 team, for the third consecutive week, after another impressive 5-0 week, which brings their season record to a perfect 9-0.  After beating St. Michael's in their mid-week matchup, the Bears traveled to Hoover, AL, and went a perfect 4-0, against some of the best teams in the country.  Another team that traveled out of state for a tournament last week was Sam Houston, who moves back into the Top-5 at #2 this week.  The Broncos went a perfect 4-0 this week and also competed against some of the country's best teams at a tournament in Georgia.  Senior Griffin Hebert did it all for Sam Houston in their Thursday tilt against nationally ranked Trinity Christian Academy (FL), as he went 5 IP and struck out 7 and also hit a homerun, to lead the Broncos to a 4-2 victory.  Natchitoches Central moves up a couple of spots this week to #3, after another 4-0 week, moving their season record to 8-0.  The Chiefs scored 35 runs and only allowed 2 runs in their four games last week.  West Monroe moves back into the Top-5 again this week at #4, after going 5-0 last week.  The Rebels had wins over Northwood, Bryant (AR), John Curtis Christian, Hahnville, and Destrehan.  Barbe also rejoins the Top-5, after going 4-1 last week.  The Bucs also traveled out of state to Hoover, AL, where they went 3-1 with their lone loss coming at the hands of national perrenial power IMG Academy (FL).  Freshman Lawton Littleton picked up another couple of wins, on the mound in Week 2, and now owns a perfect 4-0 record for the season. 

 

Risers

 

+ Brother Martin moves up 8 spots to #6 overall, after going a perfect 4-0 on the week.  The Crusaders had key wins over Acadiana, Zachary, and St. Louis Catholic.  Junior Stan Wiltz was red-hot at the plate last week, as he went 9-12 (.750) with 2 2B, 5 RBI, and 8 R.

+ Mandeville made their Power 25 Rankings debut last week, and move into the Top-10 this week, after going 4-0 last week, moving their season record to 7-1 overall.  The Skippers had key wins over Shaw and Harrison Central (MS).

+ Denhamn Springs also made their Power 25 Rankings debut last week, and move up again this week to #11 overall, after going 4-0 last week, moving their season record to a perfect 9-0.  The Yellow Jackets outscored their oppenents in Week 2 by a combined 44 to 5.
