The Mississippi Diamond Notes is back for 2024 and will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight those positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Wednesday of the high school season that are deserving to be highlighted based on their performance. 

Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

MISSISSIPPI DIAMOND NOTES: WEEK 1

 

Aiden Swales C / 2B / Pisgah, MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 131 / POS: 13 Swales had a strong opening week to the high school season for Pisgah as he contributed to the offense going 5-14 with 2 home runs, triple, 8 runs, and 7 RBI's.

Brayden Quick C / Germantown, MS / 2025 Quick had a great week at the plate for Germantown as he logged a 5-9 clip with a home run, 3 doubles, and 6 RBI's.

Jackson Hood SS / C / Germantown, MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 25 / POS: 5 Another Germantown Maverick found his way into the Diamond Notes for Week 1, the Former Future Gamer went 5-7 with 2 home runs and 6 RBI's.

Nelson Barthel C / OF / Northwest Rankin , MS / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 25 / POS: 3 Barthel continues to impress with each look as we got a glimpse of him this preseason at the Mississippi Preseason All-State. Barthel went 5-11 with 2 doubles at the dish for Northwest Rankin.

Andrew Woods C / RHP / Florence, MS / 2025 Woods was stellar on the mound for Florence, the right hander tossed 6 1/3 Innings, while allowing just 1 ER, 0 BB, and collected 12 strikeouts.

Jaxson Moore RHP / RHP / Harrison Central, MS / 2025 The Harrison Central right hander threw 5 innings, while allowing just 3 H, 0 R, and grabbed 5 strikeouts.

Conner Watkins SS / RHP / Warren Central, MS / 2024 Watkins was strong on the bump for Warren Central this past week as he tossed 6 2/3 innings over 2 relief appearances, allowed 0 H, 0 R, with tallied. 8 strikeouts.

Drew Davis RHP / SS / Sumrall, MS / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 2 / POS: 2 OverallRank: 73 / POS: 15 No surprise here as Davis continues to dominate on the mound for Sumrall. The young right hander threw 5 innings, allowing just 1 H, 1 BB, 0 R, and 5 strikeouts.

Gabe Hodges RHP / Northwest Rankin, MS / 2025 Hodges had a solid first week of the season on the mound as he tossed 5 innings for the Cougars, allowing just two knocks, 0 ER, 1 BB and grabbing 8 punchouts.

Calvin Robinson LHP / OF / Northwest Rankin , MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 93 / POS: 5 The southpaw continues to show strong stuff on the mound, Robinson tossed 5 innings, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, with 9 strikeouts for Northwest Rankin in the opening week of the season.

Wyatt Pyron 3B / RHP / Biloxi, MS / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 120 / POS: 18 We got a look at Pyron this preseason, in opening week the right hander threw 5 innings, 2 H, 0 R, with 5 strikeouts.

Ashton Hoots 3B / RHP / Itawamba, MS / 2027 In the north part of the state, Hoots had a solid week for Itawamba as he went 4-8 with 3 singles, double, and 4 RBI's. Also threw 3 innings, 1 H, 0 R, 2 strikeouts.

DJ Mitchell OF / INDEPENDENCE HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2025 Had a really impressive opening week for Independence, hit for a .714 clip at the plate with a homerun, a trio of doubles, walked 6 times, and tallied a total of 8 RBI's.
