The Mississippi Diamond Notes is back for 2024 and will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight those positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Wednesday of the high school season that are deserving to be highlighted based on their performance. 

Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

MISSISSIPPI DIAMOND NOTES: WEEK 9

Tyner Flynt OF / LHP / Presbyterian Christian , MS / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 16 / POS: 7 The uncommitted lefty and former Junior Future Games participant threw 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 run, while striking out 8. He also had a solid week at the plate going 7 for 11 with 2 doubles and 4 runs batted in.

Wiley Mossy OF / Saint Stanislaus , MS / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 57 / POS: 16 The uncommitted sophomore had a big week for the Rock-A-Chaws picking up 6 hits in 10 at bats, including a home run and 5 runs batted in. Mossy is leading the team with a .346 average and 26 runs scored.

Deuce Jenkins OF / 1B / Northwest Rankin , MS / 2027 Rankings  StateRank: 4 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 169 / POS: 38 The freshman and former Junior Future Games participant earned our Player of the Week honor after a big week for the #8 ranked Cougars as he picked up 6 hits in 9 at bats including 3 home runs, a double, a triple, and 8 runs batted in. Jenkins is now hitting .457 in limited at bats.

Tate Murphy 3B / 2B / ST STANISLAUS HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 29 / POS: 3 The uncommitted sophomore continued his solid spring by going 6 for 10 with a home run, double, and 5 runs batted in for Saint Stanislaus. On the year Murphy is hitting .338 with 2 homers and 19 RBI's.

Maddox Miller LHP / 1B / Oak Grove , MS / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 5 / POS: 2 OverallRank: 118 / POS: 10 The Mississippi State recruit threw a complete game shutout over Brandon, allowing 1 hit while striking out 10. Miller is now 4-1 with a 2.20 ERA with 45 strikeouts in just 27 innings.

Cayden Baker RHP / 1B / Lewisburg , MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 3 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 287 / POS: 99 The Baylor recruit and former Future Gamer threw a 7 inning no hitter over Southaven with 12 punch outs. On the year Baker is 3-0 with a 2.58 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 38 innings.

Walker Hooks LHP / 1B / Brandon High School, MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 7 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 490 / POS: 53 The Ole Miss recruit was effecient in his outing last week vs Oak Grove as he threw 7 innings, scattering 4 hits, while striking out 7 on just 82 pitches. Hooks is now 6-2 with a 1.83 ERA on the year with 63 strikeouts in 42 innings.

Houston Green SS / RHP / Center Hill , MS / 2024 The Itawamba CC recruit earned our Pitcher of the Week honor after a spectacular outing versus Saltillo going 7 innings, allowing just 2 hits, while striking out 14 against zero walks! Green is 5-2 with a 3.03 ERA on the season with 55 strikeouts!

Stephen Tolbert RHP / OF / Southaven, MS / 2024 The Southern University recruit was solid in his outing vs Lewisburg, throwing 6 innings, allowing just 1 hit, 2 runs, while striking out 11.
