D2-A: Recap + Preview

D2-A has seen quite the shake up during the postseason thus far, most notably previously no. 1 ranked Goodpasture Christian going two and out during the middle region bracket play, but also 5 of the top 15 clubs being eliminated from the postseason. From the previous rankings, only one of the top eight clubs actually secured the top seed for the region.  We saw CPA finish fourth in the district three tourney then make a run to capture the Middle #1 seed putting them immediately in the state quarterfinals. Previously undisputed Trinity Christian Academy dropped a pair of one run ball games to be upended by Northpoint and Tipton Rosemark out West.  CAK took care of business out in the east rolling through the region to secure the one seed for the quarterfinals.  On Saturday (May 15th), there will be four single elimination matchups to determine who will advanced to the Elite Eight:

M #4 Clarksville Academy @ E #2 Webb of Knoxville

W #3 Trinity Christian Academy vs E #4 The King's Academy (@CPA)

W #4 ECS @ M #2 Columbia Academy

M #3 Grace Christian Academy @ E #3 Silverdale Academy

Byes: W #2 Northpoint Christian, M #1 CPA, E #1 CAK, W #1 Tipton Rosemark

D2-A Rankings: Postseason Edition No. 1

We're sticking with Top 15 for this classification, even though 12 teams remain and we'll continue to update as postseason proceeds. As we've seen in the most recent postseason games, this league is wide open with muddy waters throughout and more good baseball on the horizon as the 2019 reigning champ CAK is a clear favorite to capture a fourth consecutive state title. The seeding are currently a bit jumbled overall as we're looking at the whole season resume including who has been hot down the stretch, but also weighing head to head matchups.

1. CAK (30-8; East #1)
2. Columbia Academy (31-7; Middle #2)
3. Northpoint (30-6; West #2)
4. Trinity Christian (24-8; West #3)
5. Silverdale Baptist (29-4; East #3)
6. Grace Christian Academy (28-10; Middle #3)
7. Tipton Rosemark (23-14; West #1)
8. CPA (26-13-1; Middle #1)
9. Webb of Knoxville (16-8; East #2)
10. Clarksville Academy (22-11; Middle #4)
11. Goodpasture (31-5; Eliminated)
12. MTCS (26-7; Eliminated)
13. The King's Academy (14-15; East #4)
14. ECS (16-16; West #4)
15. USJ (17-16; Eliminated)

D2-A: Recap + Preview

The D2-AA playoffs have been a bit more calm than the smaller private school class as the top three ranked teams secured the top region seed and most of the seedings followed suit.  During the Middle/West tournaments, the biggest surprises had to be MUS going two and out after finishing second in the regular season and Ensworth securing the Middle #4 seed coming out of the losers bracket after finishing 6th during the regular season.  Ensworth is showing they can be dangerous after taking down Knoxville Catholic yesterday 6-1 behind Connor Cobb's gem on the mound with the next games on Saturday.  Pope John Paul II will take on a hot St. Benedicts club starting with a double header tonight.

Round One (Best of 3)

W #3 St Benedicts Academy vs M #3 Pope John Paul II

E #3 Knoxville Catholic @ M #4 Ensworth (1-0 Ensworth)

Quarter Finals (Best of 3)

JP2/SBA Winner @ W #1 Briarcrest

E #2 McCallie @ M #1 Lipscomb Academy

Ensworth/Knox. Catholic Winner @ E #1 Baylor

M #2 Brentwood Academy vs W #2 Christian Brothers

D2-AA Rankings: Postseason Edition No. 1

As we stated before not much shuffling in the rankings following the postseason tournaments, as 4-8 slide up a spot and Ensworth and St. Benedicts jump into the mix.

1. Baylor School (22-4; East #1)
2. Briarcrest (26-5; West #1)
3. Lipscomb Academy (19-9; Middle #1)
4. McCallie (18-8; East #2)
5. Christian Brothers (22-15; West #2)
6. Brentwood Academy (15-14; Middle #2)
7. Knoxville Catholic (18-13; East #3)
