Southeast Senior Games: Tennessee Quick Hits

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

OXFORD, AL - The PBR Southeast Senior Games was held on October 7th-8th at Jacksonville State University and Choccolocco Park in Jacksonville/Oxford, AL. This was an invite-only event that consisted of the top uncommitted 2024 prospects in Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana. These players went through a pro-style workout on Saturday and took batting practice using Trackman to record hitting metrics, then followed it up with gameplay on Sunday with pitchers throwing multiple innings. To see full statistics gathered from the event, CLICK HERE. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing this weekend.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top Tennessee performers and standouts from the event. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release various leaderboards from the event then transition into releasing individual scouting reports for each player in attendance.

quick hits - tennessee

+ William Cade Cocke: Thick and strong build for the 24 primary catcher that offers enough athleticism behind the dish for continued success in this game. Showcased well in the defensive and hitting portions at the event. He moves really well for a bigger high school kid and showed mobile hips when blocking. He offered clean and easy transfers with his throws, while the arm strength is still developing, he showed consistent on line accurate throws with the ability to throw runners out at second. At the plate, showed decent hand speed at low 20’s with enough barrel control to really turn on baseballs to the pull side. Did a nice job of going with the pitch to all parts of the field during BP to a tune of a 95 mph exit velocity, while having multiple in the low 90’s off the bat. May need to continue to refine his game and body, which should help him continue to rotate better at the plate as present body strength is there. Played really well in the game portion of the event and had really quality at bats where he worked counts deep and made hard contact. Good player that is looking for a home at the next level.

+ Eli Gardenhire: Long and wiry frame, Gardenhire offers plenty of continued projection on the hill where he can easily add muscle mass to his lanky frame. Coming off a great outing at the TN Senior Games, Gardenhire continued to show potential. Going 3 innings, he consistently got ahead in counts, attacked the low part of the zone and racked up swing and misses on his fastball. While not overpowering coming in at 78-79, it showed asr with sneaky ride to the pitch. He showed ability to locate his off-speed generating weak contact out of high release angle from the mound. CH showed true swing and miss stuff that he was able to go to at any point in his outing for success. Rising arm that is a little behind in his development in terms of velocity but offers projection from a long frame that can add plenty of arm strength with the right fit.

+ Tyler Zeligman: Coming off his impressive TN Senior Games outing, Zeligman looked to carry his success in which he showed plenty of promise and continued development. Going 2 innings, Zeligman dominated his entire outing with minimal hard contact off the bat from hitters. He did a nice job of getting ahead early with the FB to both sides of the plate, while mixing in quality breaking balls, especially to right handed hitters. Breaking-ball was able to get plenty of swing to rack up two K’s on the pitch. FB velo was down from a few weeks back coming in at 84-85 T86, but something to be expected after coming in off of a long summer and early fall. A good rest period over and continued added weight will be something that propels Zeligman forward for the spring where upper 80’s consistently should be zero issue.
