Nashville Preseason ID: Quick Hits

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

GALLATIN, TN - The Nashville Preseason ID was held on Sunday, January 7th at Liberty Creek High School's Indoor Facility. This event was an open event that consisted of players from the 2024-2028 classes from Volunteer state. Players went through an extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers from the event.

QUICK HITS

Derek Chambliss SS / OF / Beech, TN / 2024

The uncommitted ‘24 may have had the best overall day and had many of us wondering how this prospect was still uncommitted going into his senior season. Starting hot out of the gate, Chambliss posted the fastest speed time of the day with a 6.67 sixty with fluid movement patterns and effortless athleticism. Strong built frame at 5 foot 7 and 150 pounds offers more projection to come in many facets of the game. Carrying over the initial excitement to the hitting portion, Chambliss offered a compact swing that was short to the ball with 25 G’s of rotation with a 92% on plane efficiency according to Blast Motion metrics. Leaving his round with a 96 mph max exit velocity with an average right at 90 mph left us pretty impressed. Clean actions defensively from the outfield with a mid 80’s mph arm to home with a total makeup that will only continue to get better. He is worth following this spring and look for him to find a home at the next level before his season ends.

Evan Driver 1B / LHP / Lebanon, TN / 2025

Big physical prospect in the ‘25 class at 6 foot 3 and 200 pounds, Driver offered hard shot barreled balls with his furthest ball traveling a total of 327 ft. Stayed mostly with a linedrive approach at a 71% clip that showed backspin and easy rotation of his body. Walked away from the event showing quick hands in the low 20’s mph with a max exit velocity of 94 mph that averaged out to 88 mph for his total round. Showed quality barrel control with a 79% sweet spot rate that offers more to come in the future.

Tyler Reynolds 3B / 1B / Green Hill, TN / 2028

Young ‘28 prospect that showed maturity and ability during his hitting portion with balls jumping off his bat when he was able to sequence everything together. Tied for the highest max EV at 96 mph with just over 70 mph of bat speed. Listed at 6 foot and 160 pounds going into his 8th grade season, Reynolds surely will continue to develop and should be able to produce 100 mph exit velocity before long. Infield velocity came in right at 70 mph, showing that there is a lot of physical growth that is yet to happen and will be an intriguing prospect to follow as he goes into his high school career this time next year.

Gabe Gray SS / OF / Green Hill, TN / 2025

The ‘25 class middle infielder had a really great day where he flashed athletic components, speed, strength and future projectable ability. Listed at 5 foot 10 and 160 pounds, Gray packs a punch with electricity where he showed a sixty time at 6.84 seconds that peaked initial interest. During his BP rounds, Gray offered an easy swing with high hands that showed rhythm and timing working together very nicely. 92 mph max exit velocity with an 88 mph average with a heavy ground ball and low line-drive approach. Clean in the infield portion with a bendy body that tracked mid 80 mph throws to first with life behind it. Worked really well to his backhead and offered a certain level of comfortability with receiving and transferring to throw. Overall had a really nice showing and is someone to follow this spring on a really good Greenhill team looking to make it to the state tournament once again.

Jackson Goddard SS / RHP / Liberty Creek, TN / 2026

Athletic and long ‘26 class prospect currently at 6 foot 2 and 170 pounds that showed out well at the event in many ways. Flashed decent speed right at 7.05 during this sixty portion. Arm speed is clearly present with whippiness that popped multiple 86 mph across the infield to first. Really stood out on the mound where he sat 83-85 mph with easy repeatable actions throughout his delivery. 17 inches on average for induced vertical on the four-seam that was consistently around the zone. Showed feel for spinning both his curveball and slider (2200-2300) with speed differential and the ability to locate. Changup may offer the best projection on all secondary pitches as it carried ideal tunneling from his FB with about 14 inches on average of horizontal break. He will need to continue to kill spin and velocity on that pitch, but could be a real weapon for him down the line. Look for him to compete heavily for innings this season at Liberty Creek.

Alexander Pinson SS / RHP / Soddy Daisy, TN / 2025

‘25 RHP prospect that attends Soddy Daisy and showed the arm is the real deal. Physical kid at 6 foot 2 and 185 pounds that still isn’t done developing. Flashed the hardest FB of the event with an 88 mph heater with 19 inches of average vertical break. It wasn’t just the quick arm with an athletic engine but more so the ability to locate in and out on the plate consistently that really left us impressed. CB showed consistent pitch clusters with a feel for what he is doing on the bump. Velocity range came in right at 73-78 mph with quality spin in the 2100 RPM range with more to come as he develops more velocity on those pitches. CH was overall his best secondary pitch with tunneled arm speed and movement actions out of hand that came in at 73-79 mph. He also will need to continue to kill spin on that pitch for an overall better shape. Clean repeatable delivery with the ability to block his front leg for maximum extension of his arm gets him closer to home plate upon release. Look for him to have a big year and his name to start making more rounds on the circuit.

Corbin Craver LHP / LHP / Green Hill, TN / 2025

A guy that got on our radar this fall, Craver continues to get better and is someone that I am personally really high on. The smaller stature southpaw may be just be 5 foot 9 and 145 pounds. However, the current Greenhill junior offers a lot to like on the mound where he showed confidence and a swagger to him. Displayed really good pitch coupling in his breakdown shapes. FB stayed consistently 80-82 with decent spin in the 2100 RPM range (2300 TOP), while movinging plane well just at over 17 inches of horizontal. It is a true sinker that should give righties fits. Attacked the strike zone consistently and showed a lot of promise as a competitor. Best offering was his SL coming in right at 72-74 with nasty late biting action that offers true wipeout potential. Plus offering that averaged 2700 of RPM’s while topping 2845 RPM’s to go along with 19 inches of average horizontal break for a true Sweeper Slider. That is something that a lot of high school and even college pitchers for the matter aren't ever able to do. Showed a few sliders at 23/23 inches of horizontal break for a true plus plus offering that should allow him to rack up strikeouts at a high clip and be an offering that carries him far on the mound. CH came in with killed spin at 1600 RPM’s with tunneled velocity at 75-78 mph. Would like to see him continue to gain some distance from his fastball in terms of velocity but the pitch has a real chance showing 16 inches of horizontal movement on average. If he can continue to grow in size and strength, he should have a strong chance to pitch competitively for plenty of college schools as he is a metric freak and someone worth following as he pitches this spring.
