The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Dora Bulldogs took a big step forward posting a winner seaoson with an overall record of 16-13, but unfortunately missed out on the postseason in Class 4A. This spring, the Bulldogs return nearly all of their offensive production and pitchers on the mound and hope those returning players will be able to lead them into the playoffs in 2024.

The Bulldogs continue to improve year-after-year in Class 4A, and have high hopes this year that they'll continue to improve and take the next step within their program. They bring back a host of returning players, as eight positional starters and eight pitchers who saw time on the mound a season ago come back for another season. OF/RHP Camden Hines (2024) is one of those noteworthy returners both at the plate and on the mound, as he'll be the anchor and captain of the outfield and will hit at the top of their order. The senior will also be a key contributor once again on the mound, as well. 1B/RHP Cade Channell (2025) is a multi-sport prospect who is garnering some interest from some high Division 1 programs as an offensive lineman, but can also swing it on the diamond. The junior will throw important innings and hit in the heart of the order and be relied on to drive in runs from the right side of the plate. INF/RHP Cooper Martin (2025) is another junior returner who is very versatile and can play multiple spots on the infield. He'll also be one of their top arms after recording five wins and posting a 1.57 ERA as a sophomore last spring. UTL/RHP Garrett Hogland (2024) is another talented prospect that returns to the middle of their order, while C/RHP Gage Hogland (2027) and OF Grayson Stephenson (2027) are a pair of freshman who should inherit some important roles for the Bulldogs this spring.

After a strong season in 2023, the Bulldogs expect to continue to build off of the momentum and have the returners to do so this spring. They'll compete in Area 10 against Cordova, Corner, and Curry for a berth in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Expect Dora to have another successful season in Class 4A in 2024.
