Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Greenville Tigers enter the 2024 season looking to build off of last year's success, where they finished as the runner-up in their area and reached the Class 5A playoffs. Using a team this year that has good overall team speed and solid defensve, the Tigers expect to have another strong spring with some notable returners back on this year's roster.

Looking at the roster for this season, the Tigers look to have a solid amount of talent in the sophomore and junior classes with many of those players bring back valuable experience at the varsity level. After reaching the playoffs last spring, the Tigers were dealt a difficult task going on the road to Headland, one of the top programs in Class 5A, and gave them a good fight in three games. They were, however, defeated in the decisive Game 3 and ended their season with a 13-14 record. They do bring back a little more than half of last year's offensive lineup and six pitchers on the mound who saw meaningful time last season. RHP/3B Trip Albert (2026) should be the ace of this pitching staff once again this spring after a breakout freshman campaign on the mound. The sophomore, who will also be an offensive threat, delivered a gutsy outing in the playoffs and beat Headland last spring. RHP/SS Paxton Moorer (2026) is another important returning sophomore who developed into their everyday shortstop as a freshman last season and is expected to return there this spring. As a freshman, Moorer hit over .300 in the batting average and has continued to get better throughout the off-season. RHP/OF Sandrell Williams (2025) is a toosly upperclassmen who brings back tons of valuable experience playing at the varsity level. An everday starter since his eighth-grade year, the junior has a live arm with good defensive skills and can hit for power and average at the plate.

The Tigers will hope to reach the Class 5A playoffs once again this spring and advance even further into the later rounds after getting a taste of playoff baseball in 2023. They'll compete in Area 5 against Demopolis and Selma for a playoff berth at the end of the regular season. Expect Greenville to once again be in the thick of it in their area at the end of the season with a chance of reaching the Class 5A playoffs for a second season in a row in 2024.
