Los Angeles, Calif. - Each week during the high school season we will announce the NorCal Pitcher and Player of the Week covering the action from the previous week. Numerous players across the state continue to put up impressive numbers both as position players and pitchers on the mound. This year we will be selecting one Pitcher of the Week and one Player of the Week based on recommendations from high school coaches from Northern California. 

Continuing from previous seasons, we will also be highlighting others players from across the state in our Prep Baseball California Diamond Notes that will be released weekly. Our Diamond Notes will highlight other players nominated by high school coaches that are deserving of recognition that were not named Pitcher of Player of the Week. 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Senior righthander Tyler Patrick spun an absolute gem for Clovis West in his start against the Frontier Titans (14-3 entering the game). Patrick went a complete game allowing just 2 hits and struck out 14 hitters for a 2-1 win. On the season the senior is 3-1 with 1 save in 25.2 innings pitched and has punched out 36 hitters with an eye popping .55 ERA and .110 opponents batting average in his senior season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sophomore C/INF Jacob Castillo from Excelsior Charter School had an outstanding week for the Eagles. In 10 total plate appearances Castillo reached base 9 times including going 6-7 at the plate and drew 3 walks. In those 6 hits he drove in 7 runs. Castillo is having a fantastic sophomore season hitting .457 leading the regulars for the Eagles with 7 doubles, 2 home runs and 15 RBIs so far this spring.
