Los Angeles, Calif. - Each week during the high school season we will announce the NorCal Pitcher and Player of the Week covering the action from the previous week. Numerous players across the state continue to put up impressive numbers both as position players and pitchers on the mound. This year we will be selecting one Pitcher of the Week and one Player of the Week based on recommendations from high school coaches from Northern California. 

Continuing from previous seasons, we will also be highlighting others players from across the state in our Prep Baseball California Diamond Notes that will be released weekly. Our Diamond Notes will highlight other players nominated by high school coaches that are deserving of recognition that were not named Pitcher of Player of the Week. 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Senior righthander Andrew Nichols toed the rubber for Soledad High School and by the end of his start had made history by throwing the first ever perfect game in Soledad baseball history.  Over the course of his masterpiece Nichols would punchout 14 of the 18 hitters he faced in the game. His week was not only magnificent on the mound, but he added 2 hits and 4 walks with an RBI over that span.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Senior 2B/SS Jax Gimenez had a standout week for Whitney High school where the Oregon Duck commit went 5 for 9 with 3 of those hits being doubles and for good measure added a HR to the mix. On top of the impact his bat made Gimenez drew 3 walks was hit by two pitches, stole 4 bases and scored 3 runs.
