Barbe High School capped off one of, if not, the best season in program history last spring, finishing 39-2, on route to their 11th Class 5A State Championship.  The Bucs were led by seniors Jack Walker (Mississippi State) and Kyle Debarge (University of Louisiana), who will both be key pieces to replace for this year's Barbe team.  Starting pitching will again be a strength for the Bucs in 2022, as they return 2022 Gavin Guidry (LSU Signee), who went 6-0 last year with a 0.92 ERA.  In an early look this fall, we saw Guidry work his FB up to 94 mph, while sitting 89-93 mph, to go along with a new pitch in his arsenal; a SL at 80-85 mph.  Behind Guidry, Coach Cecchini is excited to get 2023 J.C. Vanek (LSU Commit) back on the mound, after rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.  The southpaw will work in the mid-80's with his FB, to go along with a CB, SL, and CH.  The state's #1 prospect in the 2024 class, Landon Victorian, will be the Bucs No. 3 starter.  The bullpen is unproven, but Pitching Coach Dillon Carrol feels confident in guys like 2024 LHP Diego Corrales, 2024 RHP Drake Pousson, 2023 RHP Gavin Ashford, and 2023 RHP Landon Ledoux; just to name a few.  Offensively, Barbe will return 6 everyday starters from last year's team, including Guidry, who will man the SS position, when he isn't on the mound.  Vanek, the team's leading hitter last year, will hold down 1B when he isn't on the mound.  2022 3B Grant Comeaux (Louisiana Tech Signee) and 2023 OF Donovan LaSalle (Oklahoma State Commit), two first team All-District performers in 2021, both return and should both be in the middle of the Bucs lineup to drive in runs.  2022 OF Crawford Courville (LSU-Eunice Signee) is back in CF and has been swinging the bat really well leading up to the season, after rehabbing from a shoulder injury that he suffered late in the 2021 season.  2024 Owen Galt (LSU Commit) could have been listed as a 7th returning starter for Barbe this year, as Galt played SS last year, when Guidry toed the rubber.  Galt is projected to see time at 2B, SS, and 3B this season.  Other newcomers that will see considerable playing time for the Bucs include 2024 Kasen Bellard, who swung the bat extremely well at this summer's Future Games, 2022 OF Blake Moss, and 2025 Presley Courville (Texas A&M Commit).  Courville, a two time Junior Future Gamer, is an advanced defender behind the plate and has handled the bat well, taking good at-bats this fall for Barbe.  District 3-5A is always a super competitive district, as evidenced by the Bucs facing off against district rival Sam Houston HS, in last year's Class 5A semifinals.  Sulphur HS returns 2023 Jake Brown (LSU Commit) on the mound, along with other key starters, which should make for a really good Tornado team this spring.  Barbe once again has exceptional starting pitching, with two SEC guys in Guidry and Vanek, and it's inevitable that Victorian will end up at a SEC/Power 5 school, as he already has multiple offers from big time college programs.  The team also returns more everyday starters than the 2021 team.  Coach Cecchini is never in a "rebuild" mode, but rather "reloads" every spring, and always has his guys ready to play.  It should come as no surprise, that we fully expect the Bucs to be in Sulphur, LA for the state tournament this spring, to defend their 2021 state title and to possibly win their 12th state title in school history.
