With district play of the 2016 season about to kick off around the state, Prep Baseball Report Louisiana has updated its Power 25 team rankings.

+ Barbe retains its No.1 overall ranking, as they have jumped out to a 17 and 3 start. The Bucs are an extremely young club, and as is usually the case, a very tough beat.

+ Lead by two high-level division 1 arms, Brother Martin checks in at No. 2. Tulane commit, Keagan Gillies, and LSU commit, Blair Frederick, are off to good starts for the Crusaders on the hill and Tulane commit, Michael Kirsch, adds some juice in the middle of the order.

+ Teurlings Catholic looks to be the class of 4A in the early part of the season and check in at No.3. ULL commit, Hayden Cantrelle and LSU commit, Nick Webre, help lead the way for an explosive lineup. LSU-Eunice commit, Austin Kirkpatrick, is one of the best defensive catchers in the state and has the ability to shut down the running game.

+ LSU commit, Josh Smith and Catholic (BR) check in at No. 4. The Bears are a scrappy bunch that play the game hard and have tough outs throughout the lineup. It’s a potent offense that likes to put pressure on opposing teams with the run game.

+ Lafayette rounds out the top five, as they boast one of the deeper pitching staffs in the state. LSU commit, Miguel Reyes, can run it up to 90 mph with a sharp slider, and Bo Hardin has a mid to upper 80s fastball with quality secondary stuff. McNeese State commit, Cain Castille, sures up the battery with his quality catch and throw ability.
