Prep Baseball Louisiana: Diamond Notes (Week 8)

The Prep Baseball Louisiana Diamond Notes serves as an opportunity for our staff to highlight players, from across the state, that put up impressive performances on a given week, yet fell short of our Mizuno Player & Pitcher of the Week honors.
NOTE: These submissions were provided from high school coaches from around the state. Rowen Bergeron INF / Opelousas Catholic, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 26 / POS: 7
We were definitely bullish on Bergeron heading into the spring, after seeing him at our State Games this past fall, and he was impressive last week at the plate for the Vikings. The uncommitted junior infielder went 6-12 (.500) with 2 HR, 1 2B, 10 RBI, 7 R, and 2 BB in Opelousas Catholic's four wins last week over Westminster Academy, St. Edmund's, Tioga, and Ponchatoula. His two biggest performances came against Westminster Academy last Monday, where he went 2-3 with a HR, 3 RBI, and 3 R, and against Tioga last Friday, where he went 3-5 with a HR, 5 RBI, and 3 R. |
Pitcher of the Week

William Schmidt RHP / Catholic BR, LA / 2024Catholic BR currently holds the #2 spot in our 2024 National High School Team Rankings, and Schmidt has been a big reason for the Bears success this season. Last Thursday, a plethora of MLB scouts, including a couple of MLB General Managers showed up to see the state's #1 player against Zachary, and he delivered arguably his best outing of the season. The LSU recruit was dominant from his first pitch to his last pitch, as he tossed a complete game no-hitter (84 pitches | 59 strikes | 25 balls) with only 1 BB and 14 K's, as the Bears beat the Broncos, by a score of 10-0, in 6 innings, to move their season record to 30-2. Schmidt now owns a 7-0 record and 0.49 ERA with 69 K's to 14 BB's across 42 2/3 IP. |

The former Future Gamer and Air Force recruit had another good week at the plate for the Wolves. For the week, Winchester went 5-9 (.556) with 1 HR, 3 2B, and 5 RBI's. |

Easton Sanders 1B / RHP / Glenbrook, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 11 / POS: 1
The Louisiana Tech recruit continued to shine as a two-way for the Apaches last week. In an 11-1 win over Oak Grove last Friday, Sanders tossed 5 innings of no-hit baseball with 0 BB and 8 K's, while also going 2-2 at the plate with a HR and 3 RBI's. |

Tanner Savoy RHP / Livonia, LA / 2027Savoy turned in a nice performance on the mound last Monday in Livonia's 8-1 win over Beau Chene. The freshman hurler tossed a complete-game and gave up only 2 H and 1 ER with 3 BB and 9 K's. |

Wyatt Buratt RHP / C / Ascension Christian, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 220 / POS: 32
Buratt had another impressive week at the plate for Ascension Christian. For the week, Buratt went 8-16 (.500) with 1 HR, 4 2B, and 7 RBI, which included a walk-off hit against St. John in the district semifinal game. |

Wyatt Stafford 1B / Ascension Christian, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 219 / POS: 13
The uncommitted junior swung the bat well again last week for Ascension Christian. Stafford went 5-14 (.357) with 1 HR, 1 2B, 1 3B, and 3 RBI. |

Thomas Collins LHP / New Iberia, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 114 / POS: 16
The Belhaven recruit went 1-0 last week in two separate district appearances. Collins threw six innings against Sam Houston and another four innings against Comeaux to finish the week allowing only 5 H and 0 ER, across 10 IP, with 16 K's.

Brody Vicknair C / Riverside Academy, LA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 56 / POS: 11
The freshman backstop had a stellar week at the plate for Riverside Academy. Vicknair went 9-13 (.692) with 5 2B, 1 3B, and 5 RBI in four games. |

Kason Johnson RHP / Dutchtown, LA / 2026Rankings StateRank: 47 / POS: 3
The uncommitted sophomore had a big-time relief appearance for the Griffins last week against East Ascension. Johnson came into the game in the 2nd inning, with two runners on, and ended up giving Dutchtown 5 1/3 shutout IP, giving up only 3 H with 1 BB and 4 K's in the Griffins 7-5 win. |

Collin Harris OF / Barbe, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 81 / POS: 13
The uncommitted senior had another monster week at the plate for the Bucs. Harris went 7-12 (.583) with 2 HR, 1 2B, 7 RBI, and 7 R in Barbe's five games last week. |

Layton Ballard OF / RHP / Albany, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 236 / POS: 56
The uncommitted junior had a nice week on the mound and at the plate for Albany. Ballard tossed a complete-game shutout against Higgins last Monday, giving up only 2 H with 13 K's and also went 2-2 with a 2B, 1 RBI, and 2 R vs. Pine on Tuesday.

Owen Galt SS / Barbe, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 17 / POS: 3
The former Future Gamer and UL-Lafayette recruit swung the bat well in the Bucs five wins last week. Galt went 4-10 (.400) with 2 RBI and 5 R. He also picked up a win on the mound in two no-hit innings of relief.

Griffin Hebert MIF / RHP / Sam Houston, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 12 / POS: 3
The University of Louisiana-Lafayette recruit is back healthy and had a good week for the Broncos last week. Hebert went 8-16 (.500) with 2 2B, 2 3B, and 6 RBI's, while also recording 2 saves on the mound across 4 IP with 7 K's.

Drake Pousson RHP / Barbe, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 138 / POS: 32
The uncommitted senior had his best week of the season last week for the Bucs. Pousson went 2-0 across 8 IP and gave up 2 ER on 3 H with 2 BB and 10 K's.

Cameron Cavenah C / INF / Reeves, LA / 2024Cavenah had a nice showing at the plate for Reeves in their three games last week. For the week, he went 6-8 (.750) with 1 2B, 2 3B, 2 RBI, 3 R, and 4 SB.

Jed Henry 3B / South Beauregard, LA / 2026The uncommitted sophomore had another good performance at the plate last week for the Golden Knights. Henry went 4-8 (.500) with 3 RBI, 2 R, and 2 SB.

Luke Brister INF / South Beauregard, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 126 / POS: 30
The uncommitted junior did a little bit of everything for the Golden Knights last week. He went 3-5 (.600) at the pltae with 2 RBI, 2 R, and 2 BB, and also threw two innings of no-hit baseball with 3 K's in the 8th and 9 innings against Iowa to seal South Beauregard's district title.

Slade Shove-Knox RHP / Sulphur, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 59 / POS: 12
The uncommitted junior right-hander delivered one of the best pitching performances that we've seen this spring. Shox-Knox tossed 6 2/3 innings and gave up only 3 H (all singles) and 0 ER with 1 BB and 8 K's.

Presley Courville C / Barbe, LA / 2025The former Jr. Future Gamer and Texas A&M recruit is finally healthy and is starting to heat up going into the playoffs. Courville went 6-10 (.600) with 1 2B, 6 RBI, and 3 BB.

Logan Sorrel RHP / Dunham, LA / 2026The uncommitted sophomore continues to stack impressive performances together this spring and last Saturday might have been his best of the season. Sorrel got the start against one of the better teams in Class 5A, in Mandeville, and tossed a 5 inning no-hitter with 1 BB and 5 K's, as the Tigers beat the Skippers 12-0.

Ja'Derryian Washington MIF / Barbe, LA / 2026Rankings StateRank: 11 / POS: 4
Washington enjoyed a good week at the plate for Barbe in their five wins. The uncommitted sophomore went 5-10 (.500) with 4 RBI and 4 R. His biggest hit came last Friday night against district-rival Sulphur, as he hit a walk-off RBI single to seal the Bucs 2-1 win over the Tors. |

Hayden Federico SS / West Monroe, LA / 2024The Ole Miss recruit had a nice week at the plate for the Rebels in their four games last week. Federico went 8-14 (.571) with a HR, 2B, 4 RBI, and 5 R. |

Myles Ledoux MIF / C / Barbe, LA / 2026Rankings StateRank: 7 / POS: 2
The former Jr. Future Gamer has been swinging a hot bat for the Bucs and has been thrust into the leadoff role. Ledoux went 6-13 (.462) with 2 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R, and 2 BB. |

Everett Denny INF / RHP / Jesuit, LA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 86 / POS: 7
The uncommitted senior had another good week for the Blue Jays in Week 8. For the week, Denny hit at a .667 clip with an .814 OBP and 1 HR, while also logging 4 2/3 IP on the mound with 8 K's.
