Quick Hitters: Upperclass Uncommitted Games

Brandon Hall & Matt Payne
NC Executive Director & Scouting Director

Prep Baseball Report was at BB&T Point in High Point, NC on Sunday October 3rd.  The Uncommitted Upperclass Games featured over 30 players from the 2020 and 2021 classes going through a full pro-style workout followed by a controlled scrimmage.  PBR scouts were able to collect and verify statistics on each player while working to put a full evaluation on each player as well.

In the coming weeks, PBR will release the full evaluations as well as video on each prospect from the Uncommitted Upperclass Games.  Today we take our first look from the event.  While our PBR scouts are pouring through all of their notes, today we profile players that made an impression at some point during the day.  While the Quick Hitters are not meant to cover every good performance it does give readers a feel for the strength of the roster on the day.

Quick Hitters

Chad Sikes, 2B/OF, 2020
Athletic and loose, hitting lots of line drives during batting practice.  Barreled a ball to second base during game action, recording a 4.28 home to first time.

Aiken Minton, RHP, Wilkes Central HS, 2020
Presented angle and feel for the fastball and breaking ball.  Fastball up to 85.  Breaking ball with late action.  Some effort in the delivery that could be polished.

Bryson Horney, 3B/SS, 2021
Quick hands with plenty of feel for his barrel.  Drove the ball during batting practice and bat speed showed against live pitching.

Connor Flanagan, OF/SS, 2020
Athletic build and showed strength to his pull side during batting practice.  Has above average bat speed.

Clay Minor, SS/OF, 2021
Hit several line drives throughout his batting practice rounds with above average bat speed.  Athleticism is present and has plenty of room to add strength.

Luke Johnson, C/2B, 2021
Used the whole field during his batting practice with feel for lining balls to the right center gap.  Has lift in his swing with barrel awareness.

Jeriah Wilburn, OF/1B, 2020
Short stroke with a line drive approach.  Hands get through the zone with a balanced gap to gap approach.

Kaden Swaim, C/1B, 2021
Strong with lift in his swing. Drove the ball during batting practice with lots of hard contact.  Left the yard to left field twice during batting practice.

Noah Carter, RHP, Chatham Charter, 2020
Showed an ability to pitch off the fastball – curveball combo.  Can pitch backwards.  Fastball peaked at 86.  Breaking ball showed late, sharp tilt, especially when working for chase.

Adrian Sandoval, C/2B, 2020
Consistently found his barrel throughout batting practice.  Short swing with quick hands, spraying the ball all over the field.

Bain Sipe, RHP, Maiden HS, 2020
Arm works with quickness.  Still choppy delivery working for rhythm and timing.  From an over-the-top slot the fastball is up to 86.  Lacks consistent feel but pitches with aggression, working to stay in attack mode.

Dawson Wiggins, RHP, Midway HS, 2021
Has some quickness to the arm, lacking extension and falling toward 1B on his finish.  Fastball up to 81 but more is in the tank.  May be able to create spin moving forward, flashing a hard slider as the outing progressed.

Joshua Deslauriers, OF/SS, 2021
Drove the ball through the middle of the field with quick hands.  Above average bat speed and barrel feel exist.

Jack Shaw, OF/1B, 2020
Put together consistent rounds of batting practice.  Has strength to both gaps with better than average bat speed.

Cole Schiff, LHP, Heritage HS, 2021
Fastball up to 83 with occasional cut.  Did flash run to the arm side.  Athleticism is present, moving off the mound with some ease.  Big frame is still working to find consistent rhythm and release, but there may be more coming soon.

Matt Pollard, C/OF, 2021
Has strength and made hard contact to his pull side.  Barrel awareness showed throughout his rounds.
