Crider, Cougars Stifle Garner in Opener

The Wake Forest Cougars opened their season on the road visiting the Garner Trojans.  Both teams were glazed with new lineups as two sophomores took the bump, Tanner Pope for the Trojans and Carson Crider for the Cougars. 

The game was scoreless after two innings when the Cougars struck first as Duke commit Ethan Brittain stole home and Wake Forest commit Stephen Crater doubled for the Cougars to lead 2-0 after 3 innings.  Wake Forest went back to work in the fourth as James Bradbury got an RBI single and UNC commit, Carlos Diaz stroked a 2 RBI double to extend the lead to 5-0.  

Garner got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single by Cam Walton.  The Trojans added two more in the sixth with a sacrifice by Gavin Meagher and an RBI double by Cameron Williams.  Wake Forest used 3 arms behind Crider’s 4 innings of work to close the game..
