Quick Hitters: C35 Pitchers

Brandon Hall
Mid-Atlantic Scouting Director

On Wednesday October 11th PBR of North Carolina was on hand at Boshamer Stadium for a Scout Day with C35. The Scout Day featured players from the 2024-2027 grad classes.

The night started with catchers going through a defensive workout, followed by pitchers throwing a controlled bullpen with Trackman collecting ball flight data. After the pitchers, the position players ran a laser timed 60 then took BP on the field with Trackman gathering ball flight information. The night concluded with outfielders and infielders going through a defensive evaluation.

Below we begin our breakdown of the players in attendance. Look for more information to follow in the coming days.   Full roster and stats can be seen HERE.

Quick Hitters - Pitchers

Jake Cackovic, RHP, Holly Springs HS, 2025
UNC commit.  Large frame with strength present at 6-foot-7, 200 pounds. Good feel for his frame and direction, especially at his size. Good rhythm. Stable over the rubber. Long arm swing.  Works downhill through the release. Over-the-top slot.  Athletic arm. Fastball at 86-88, 2087rpm. Sink metrics with 1:15 spin tilt and over 12in of horizontal break out of the hand. Good feel for a change-up with solid arm speed and a similar window to the fastball. Change-up at 81-84, 1605rpm. Two different breaking balls are continuing to mature.  Different shape and a similar window through release.

Henry Dufour, LHP, St. James HS, 2025
Thin with an average frame at 5-foot-11, 156 pounds. Athletic delivery.  Stable head. Long arm swing working to get the hand up by the ear.  High-¾ release from the ear.  Loose with good arm speed and whip.  Fastball has big run at 77-79, 2032rpm. Slider and change-up for a strike.  Both still developing and present issues when paired as three distinct pitches.  Showed feel for working the fastball and slider to both sides.

Jackson Evans, RHP, Chapel Hill HS, 2025
Large frame, standing 6-foot-3, 195 pounds. Broad shoulders. Stretch only. Worked level.  Short arm swing.  AVerage arm speed.  Over-the-top slot.  Strength over arm speed.  Fastball up to 87.7, 2147rpm. Big ride, averaging 20.7in of induced vertical break.  12:45 tilt to the ball through the zone.  Pairs fastball with a cutter and a change-up. Cutter is very short at 76-77.  Change-up ranged 74-78, 1275rpm.  Solid arm speed and feel.

Luke Hemric, LHP, Apex Friendship HS, 2025
NC State commit. Athletic mover at 6-foot-2, 177 pounds. Quick arm. Athletic slot. Easy to see projection with the arm action and release. Long action works to a ¾ slot.  Excellent arm speed. Fastball has some ride and some run at 83-85, 2260rpm. Also featured a sinker with different action compared to the fastball at 83-85, 2175rpm. Change-up works through the same window and movement plane as the sinker at 78-79, 2151rpm.

Cooper Moss, RHP, Southern Lee HS, 2025

Luke Samples, RHP, CE Jordan HS, 2027
Lean 6-foot-6, 180 pounds. Working to find rhythm and consistent direction. Poised to see big jumps as he continues to mature. Long arm action, plunging out of the glove.  High front side creates some uphill leverage as he works to an over-the-top slot.  Average arm speed. Fastball peaked at 81.2, 1986rpm with sink metrics and some run from the 1:00 spin tilt at release. Threw curveball and slider.  Similar metrics on each pitch without much distinction in the movement patterns.
