Spring Break Scout Blog: South Brunswick Invite

Brandon Hall
NC / Mid-Atlantic Scouting Director

Prep Baseball headed to Brunswick County for a couple of days of coverage at the beach during Spring Break.  The first stop on the coastal swing was South Brunswick HS who was hosting a Spring Break Invite for the first time.  With 8 very good programs involved, this may have been a highlight of the Prep Baseball spring break coverage.

The South Brunswick Invitational featured Davie County HS, South Point HS, Laney HS, Ledford HS, TC Roberson HS, Reagan HS, North Davidson HS, and host South Brunswick HS.  The format featured winners playing each other throughout the tournament, producing a championship final.

Davie County HS

Coy James, SS, Davie County HS, 2025

Ole Miss commit. The best player on the field on most occasions, James instantly stood out in the early game at South Brunswick.  More physical than we saw him at the Prep Baseball All-American game in the fall, where he checked in at 6-foot, 170 pounds, James has added muscle while maintaining a loose, lean, athletic frame. Right handed hitter is relaxed and quiet from a tall, balanced setup. Quiet, easy load back.  Average stride. Direct path with looseness and quickness. Easily turns the barrel creating strength at the point of contact. Hammered three balls in 3 at-bats, going 2-3 with a double to the opposite field wall.  Also walked.  At shortstop, the arm continues to play with ease and accuracy. There is an ability to manipulate the exchange and release when off platform.
