Classification: 5A
Head Coach: Levi Garrett

Total Runs: 288/99

Average Runs: 7.58/2.61

Average Differential: 4.97

Outlook:

The Owls arrived somewhat ahead of schedule in 2023 with a run to the 5A State Tournament with a roster full of young talent.  Coach Garrett’s squad will look to build off the experience gained in 2023 to take another step forward in 2024.  What stands out when looking at the Owls heading into the spring season is their ability to defend at a high level. They will need to replace the impact that Jake Thomas had on the mound in 2023 but return enough arms to try and piece those innings together.  While still standing with a younger roster, the experience these young players gained paired with their natural abilities makes for Elgin to be one of the more intriguing teams to follow in 2024.

Impact Players:

Ritson Meyer, 2026, OF/RHP, Uncommitted

Meyer has been on our radar for a couple of years now as one of the more physical players in the state even as an underclassman.  Meyer has serious hand strength from the right side and shows a naturally athletic swing.  He can cover some serious ground in center with efficient routes and a knack for making plays.  Meyer will also be relied upon more on the mound in 2024 as he should take over the number one spot on the staff.  Meyer is going to be one of the more sought after recruits heading into the summer when the contact period begins for 2026’s.

Mason Thornton, 2026, RHP/OF, Uncommitted

Thornton provides a spark-plug type offensive game at the top of the lineup with a slasher-type swing from the left side.  He has shown strong abilities to handle the bat, working line drives to all fields and showing some extra base power.  Where he might have his most impact is his ability to defend at an advanced level in the outfield with a unique ability to run balls down in the gap and showing a strong arm with carry.  Thornton will also work on the mound where his low 80’s fastball and feel for spin comes with a strong attack on hitters and filling up the zone.
