Last week featured two premier matchups, with #2 ranked South Salem visiting #1 ranked Sunset and an intruiging Lake Oswego-Tualatin bout. Featuring battles of top-tier high school arms, several D-1 commits, and deeply talented rosters, the matchups did not disappoint, with high quality baseball on display throughout. Below are scouting notes taken on each of the game's standout players.

South Salem vs. Sunset (5.2.24)

South Salem

'26 C Teagan Scott, Oregon State Commit
The standout sophomore showed a strong all-around game with a maturity and leadership skills beyond his years. Advanced framer and blocker behind the plate, consistently stealing strikes and preventing the extra base. Flashed sub-2 second pop times. Stays in strong lower half in balanced setup at the plate and through swing. Short hand path, creates loft at contact with bend in levers. Longer finish. One of the more impressive prospects seen this spring in the PNW.

'26 SS Sawyer Nelson, Washington Commit
Lean, athletic frame with smooth movements on both sides of the ball. Quick first step, works around and through ball at SS with soft hands. Extremely quick to transfer and release to throw. Plus arm, ball carries. Weight loaded slightly over rear leg at the plate with hands stacked above rear shoulder. Taller posture through swing with firm front side at contact. Clear tools that project to the collegiate level.

'25 3B Kevin Semm, Uncommitted
Intruiging junior that stood out in a deep South Salem roster. Strong frame with size. Makes the routine play in field with longer release to throw. Easy arm strength across the diamond. Unique stance with hands stacked horizontally and a high front elbow. Balanced base. Short stride into flat swing path, line drive approach with present gap power. Finished 1-3 with a run scored. Uncommitted prospect to watch.

'25 OF Noah Scharer, Uncommitted
A staple at the top of the Saxon's lineup, Scharer looked the part of one of the top remaining position players in the '25 class. Rangy OF with ability to outrun balls in gaps. Balanced, slightly open stance at the plate. Higher leg kick into load, hands extend through contact. High 2-hand finish. Finished 1-4 with a loud double.

'24 RHP Carter Nelson, Oregon Commit
Senior righty looked in control through the first four innings of his outing. Tall, lean frame that projects. FB/CH/SL mix. FB topped 85, sat 82-83. SL 72-75 as second offering, CH 75-77 used sparingly. Deliberate, controlled pace through delivery. Uses size to work downhill with plus extension. Plus scap retraction into high 3/4 slot release. Easy-looking operation with repeatable mechanics.

'25 LHP/1B Kruz Schoolcraft, Uncommitted
One of the top uncommitted arms in the country, the junior showcased his versatility with a strong performance in the field and at the plate on Thursday. A true 6'7" frame, stands out physically. Makes routine play at 1B with plus plus arm strength. Wider base at the plate with high intent swing. Firm front side with extension through contact. Mostly pull-side approach. Finished 2-3 with a run, RBI and a walk on the day. Extremely exciting prospect to follow moving forward.

'26 Parker Raubuch, Uncommitted
Sophomore showed impressive poise in a big matchup, going 5 innings without giving up an earned run on Thursday. Medium-framed RH with athletic movements. FB/CH/SL mix. FB topped at 84. Could add and subtract on breaking ball, changing shape slightly to keep hitters off balance. Filled up the zone and attacked hitters. Quick paced, repeatable delivery with balanced finish.

'25 C Dakota Chun, Portland Commit
Strong, stocky frame with several tools flashed. Strong defensive showing. Minimal wasted movements when framing. Controlled run game with 2.00-2.05 pop times. Upright stance at the plate from LH side. Small strider, smooth swing with longer bat path. Important piece for the Apollos on both sides of the ball.

'25 RHP Will Slater, Uncommitted
Junior arm had a strong outing in relief on Thursday. FB/CH/SL mix. FB 79-83. SL was 74-76 with sharp, late breaking action. Compact delivery with over-top release. Weight carries toward plate with follow leg sweep toward 1B side. Final line: 2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, K.

Lake Oswego vs. Tualatin (5.1.24)

Lake Oswego

'25 RHP Harrison Smith, Uncommitted
The uncommitted junior had a stellar outing against an experienced Tualatin lineup. After working around some early traffic on the bases, Smith settled in and consistently got ahead of hitters and induced contact early in counts en route to a CG shuout. Moves the FB around the zone at 80-83 with a slurve shaped SL in the upper 60s.

'24 C Sam Trojan, Uncommitted
The experienced Senior had a solid day at the plate going 2-3 with a crucial run scored in what was a low scoring affair. Physically possesses great size for C with functional athleticism and quality mobility. Hits with a balanced, simple approach and few moving parts. Allows the hands to work freely & he can impact the baseball with easy effort. Controlled the game well behind the dish.

'26 C/DH Carsten Lemon, Uncommitted
Lemon delivered a clutch RBI single in his 2nd AB and finished 1-3 with a RBI in the DH spot. Puts a simple forward move on the ball with controlled rhythm/tempo into footstrike. Loose barrel action with late loft in the swing path.

'26 OF Caden Gerritz, Uncommitted
Intriguing, athletic sophomore to watch. Gerritz showed a mature offense approach from the leadoff spot, allowing the ball to travel & get deep into the zone with the ability to get his barrel inside the ball quickly with a tight, direct hand path. Middle/Oppo approach with controlled effort. Defensively moves well in the OF with an athletic gait & smooth strides. Loose, clean arm action with true ball flight out of hand.

'24 SS Finley Smith, Uncommitted
Smith had a 1-4 day at the plate while playing a defensively stout game at SS throughout. Lean, wiry athlete with loose, fluid actions. Keeps feet underneath him while moving laterally and has a clean exchange into throwing motion. Momentum stays behind the throw from a tight, compact arm action.

'24 RHP Nolan McCormack, Mt. Hood CC Commit
McCormack continues to have a consistent senior campaign with impressive outings each time he toes the rubber. Took the hard luck loss in this one allowing only 2 unearned runs in 6 innings while striking out 11. The tall projectable rightly combines present stuff with pitchability and still offers the promise of another jump with his pure stuff as he grows into his frame.

'25 C Isaac Pfeifer, Arizona State Commit
The physical backstop had a multi-hit game for the Timberwolves on a day when offense was tough to come by. Lined an oppo single in a 2 strike count in his 2nd AB and then muscled a ball up the middle for a single in his final AB. Shows strength in the hands with a quick, direct path to the ball.

'24 SS Ervin Dorsett, Sacramento State Commit
Continues to have a strong senior campaign, showcasing a mature approach with consistent bat-to-ball skills and gap to gap power. Has the ability to catch up to velocity while keeping adjustability in the swing and handling off-speed pitches. Strong, stocky frame throughout with short, powerful levers. Quick, active feet on defense at SS.

'25 OF Brayden Buck, Uncommitted
Uncommitted left-handed bat with above average arm strength from the OF. Buck flashed the power and bat speed in his 2nd AB with a scorching 2B to the LCF gap. Strong and connected at the point of contact, the ball jumps off the barrel when he connects and he has some of the best power potential remaining in the class
