Oregon 2024 Rankings: Fall Update

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

In our previous update to the 2024 class, we saw significant movement into the Top 10, especially with the emergence of strong left-handed pitching prospects.

In the Fall update, the Top 10 remains mostly unchanged but there is another power armed LHP who has climbed the ranks.

In addition, the list expands to 145 total prospects with a large amount of uncommitted talent still remaining on the board.

Fall Update

Crawford climbs into Top 10

‘24 LHP Blake Crawford (West Linn) lands at #9 after showing significant development in the last year and change. At his first ever PBR event back in late June of 2022, Crawford was a projectable lefty with a long, loose arm path and clean actions. The body moved well throughout the delivery and the easy arm action looked capable of future gains. On our most recent look in August at the NW Scout Games, Crawford had made the jump into the 84-87 range and was up to 88 mph in his short stint. He features a tight SL at 72-74 as well as a heavy CH at 80-81. The Oregon commit looks poised to be one of the top southpaws in the state for 2024 and gives West Linn arguably the best 1-2 combination in the state with him and RHP Gabe Howard.

Top Uncommitted

Dustin Doherty SS / 2B / Jesuit, OR / 2024

Solidly built at 6’0, 195 lbs, Dougherty has been a consistent performer across multiple looks over the last few seasons and has one of the more potent bats still available in the class. Most recently he showed a solid combination of speed, arm strength and power at the Senior Games in the Fall. The profile works well at 3B. The bat can handle velocity and he does a quality job recognizing spin and adjusting. Power plays gap to gap consistently and the bat speed projects well for his future offensive output.

Gunnar Pedersen SS / 2B / Westview, OR / 2024

A big bodied INF prospect with a wide, lengthy frame. Pedersen is a smooth operator in all facets of the game. With a confident glove hand and natural feel for the INF, he’s as sure-handed as it gets and possesses a mature internal clock when diagnosing the speed of the play. Offensively it’s a well-rounded hit profile with the ability to spray to all fields and manipulate the barrel. Given his frame/size, it’s easy to envision more power down the road.

Owen Montgomery OF / OF / Mountainside, OR / 2024

An athletic tool shed, Montgomery had a loud year across several events, highlighted by a robust performance at the 2023 West Coast Games. At 6’2, 160 lbs, he packs wiry strength into his frame with the chance to get significantly stronger without compromising his speed/athleticism. A 6.90 runner with a peak EV of 100.5 mph and an 88 mph arm from the OF. He’s arguably the top athlete remaining on the board and he could be one of the top overall performers in 2024.

Seth Willy SS / 2B / Bend, OR / 2024

One of the more complete INF prospects in the class, Willy can do it all at 6’0, 165 lbs with functional athleticism and natural strength. Defensively he moves well across the dirt with light footwork and consistent body control. He plays low with a soft glove hand and shows an easy exchange into his throws. Offensively he has a clean operation with a loose, quick barrel and natural looking swing.

Uncommitted Risers

Alex Lopez 1B / LHP / Sam Barlow, OR / 2024

Lopez is strongly built at 6’2, 210 lbs and is one of the more potent RH bats to watch heading into 2024. The bat speed has been into the upper 70s and his EV has consistently improved across multiple looks, most recently topping at 96.4 this Fall. He has true 2-way potential as a LHP who has been up to 82 mph. FB shows both ride and run, pairing well with his sweeping breaking ball and faded CH.

Cooper Adams LHP / OF / Wilsonville , OR / 2024

Adams showed off nice progress in the Fall at the uncommitted games and plays the game with the experienced demeanor you would expect from a SR. As a left-handed bat/arm, it’s a strong profile to work with and he’s made quality progress across all of his metrics. Pitches with a polished 3 pitch mix with ability to manipulate speeds and expand the zone. Has the moxie of a mature LHP that typically thrives during the spring. Offensively it’s a quick, left-handed stroke that covers the zone early and can drive the ball from gap to gap.

Tanner Ellis RHP / 3B / Mountain View, OR / 2024

Ellis took a nice step forward this Fall as a pitching prospect, showing off improved athleticism with a cleaner, more athletic arm action. At 5’11, 180 lbs, he has short, strong levers and can maintain body control throughout his delivery. The actions are simple and repeatable, allowing him to be aggressive late in his motion and throw with controlled intent. FB carries into the zone and he has an aptitude for ripping off sharp variations of both his CB and SL.
