Mid-South Preseason ID: Outfielder Reports

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

COLLIERVILLE, TN - The Mid-South Preseason ID was held on Saturday, January 27th at Collierville High School's Indoor Facility. This event was an open event that consisted of players from the 2024-2028 classes from Volunteer state. Players went through an extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at the scouting reports from the event. Next, we look at the scouting reports on all outfielders who attended the Mid-South Preseason ID.

Slight toe tap as weight shifts into back hip into a longer stride. Swing goes as front heel makes contact as the back side gains ground during swing. Short finish on front shoulder as he rotates. Agressive slightly uphill batpath that punished baseball out front of the plate to the pull side. Elite bat speed (avg 77, max 86) allows him to get to balls quickly. Back arm elbow stays tightly connected to his body as he turns, giving him great length through the zone. Present power can be augmented by sitting deeper in the legs. 77.5 mph bat speed with 7 G's of rotational acceleration.

Small stride landing on toes of his front foot, which launches from seperation. Body rotates fluidly into a two handed finish, Looks to catch the ball out front and drive it to the pull side. Can have a tendacy to drop the head of the bat resulting in poor contact on deeper contact. Showed barrel manipulation to backspin balls the other way. 65.8 mph bat speed with 8 G's of rotational acceleration.

Primarily stays up the middle with inside hand leverage to inside out the baseball. Loses some connection with lower half through the swing and causes him to swing out of the hitting zone early. Has way more power presently available to him. Slight uppercut with an opposite field approach. 64.9 mph bat speed with 24 G's of rotational acceleration.

A light shift onto backleg and a shift onto the toes of front foot leads to a simple forward stride into a lower finish. Attacks the inner half of the baseball with a middle of the field approach. Producing line drives and hard it balls off the L screen. A deep turn behind the body allows the athletic mover to stay through the zone well. He shows good zone precense and approach. Look for him to add bat speed ontop of his (66) and harder hit balls from the freshmen who topped 89mph. 66.7 mph bat speed with 12 G's of rotational acceleration.
