WEEK 6 SCOUT BLOG

+ 2026 SS/RHP Cole Koeninger - Keller

Koeninger had a hit against Southlake in their 1st game of their series, but it isn’t the results that got me excited, I thought his swing was the best I had seen it all spring. Koeninger is a great athlete, and he looks more athletic in the box now and the bat speed is starting to show.  He has big power potential and the ability to stick at short long term.  Koeninger seems to be rounding into form down the stretch.

+ 2025 3B Brody Mattox - Prosper - Uncommitted

Mattox continues his hot start to the spring.  The uncommitted 3rd baseman had a big home run against Little Elm in their first game of the series.  Mattox showed good resolve after having a couple tough ab’s to start the game, and then delivered the big blast over the LC wall.  He is moving well defensively as well, and plays a really high level 3rd base.  Mattox continues to get stronger and it is noticeable in the body transformation. Mattox has been put in the work, and it is really showing.

+ 2025 SS/RHP Jackson Hays - Plano East - Uncommitted

The athletic SS stands out on the baseball field.  He has an athletic build with good movements, shows near avg arm with solid actions. He is an easy mover  and moves well laterally. At the plate, he has a line drive, gap to gap approach. A 2 sport athlete, Hays is QB1 at Plano East.

Small is now committed to TCU as a WR. The athleticism is apparent on the diamond as well from the Junior center fielder. If he gets on first base, he is always a threat to swipe second, which he did last week. The most impressive thing I have seen from small is the way he patrols CF. If there is air under it, he is making the grab. Small will continue to be a big piece for the Trojans as they make their bid for a playoff berth.

+ 2024 1B Seth Crowley - Austin Anderson - Tulane Water Polo Commit

Crowley is an imposing figure on the diamond. He as a strong, sturdy build and likes to hit baseballs hard. The first baseman roped one in the gap and got out and ran for an RBI triple. I later learned that The cleanup hitter for the Trojans is committed to Tulane to play water polo.

+ 2024 SS/CF Theo Gillen - Westlake - Texas Commit

Gillen is an athlete that can really run and that was on display last week. He smoked a triple to RF and effortlessly floated around the bases. Later in the game he got a good read on a throw home after hitting a single and showed a quick burst getting to 2nd. He then scored on a safety squeeze with no chance of a play. Gillen continues to impress me in a different way each time I get out to see him.

+ 2026 MIF Austin Knox - Westlake

Knox is a sophomore MIF with barrel skills. He is going to put up a fight every time he gets in the box and knows how to get a job done. He had two hits in the game against Anderson last week, one being an RBI single up time middle. It will be fun to see him develop in the Westlake program as he continues to get bigger and stronger.

Brady is a gamer and a competitor on the mound. In his start last week, he was cruising in the low to mid 80’s with the FB early and continued to ramp up as the game went on. By the 5th inning, he was mid to upper 80’s. He can always reach back for more and has his secondary pitches to lean on as well. He is a big piece for Westlake as they need to finish out district play on a high note to get into playoffs.

I know Paiz as a catcher recently but he got the start at third base in this game. The LHH went 2-4 at the plate, collecting the biggest hit of the game for the Trojans. A single to RF that got under the glove and went to the wall. This would clear the bases and give Anderson a late lead that they would hold on to. The sophomore has a good swing and a good approach and is one to keep an eye on as he continues to fill out his frame.

This was my first time seeing the athletic sophomore in a game and he looked good. Although I have seen him mostly on the bump or in the INF, He was in the OF for anderson. At the plate, the LHH was 1-2 with a walk and the hit he had was a sharp single up the middle. Comeau is another piece of the 2026 class for Anderson that has the future looking bright, he can get on the mound as well and hold his own.

Fuller was lights out for Southlake in game 1 against Keller. The two way prospect has been good on both sides of the ball this year, and the trend continued on Tuesday. He was efficient in his 5 ⅓ innings only needing 65 pitches.  He competed on both sides of the plate with the fastball and sprinkled in his secondaries when ahead. He was the aggressor on the mound all night and went right after the Keller hitters. I will be back to see him later in spring for a full pitching report. He has also swung the bat well this spring. He has a short stroke from the left side with an abbreviated finish, but he delivers high exit velocities. Fuller has really impressed me this year so far.

+ 2024 RHP Peyton Fiene - McKinney North - Butler CC Commit

Peyton is a projectable RHP with a feel to pitch. Strike thrower who is aggressive attacking the zone. Works both sides of the plate with a fastball that has seen their velo tick up. He is now in the upper 80’s and projects for more. He showed feel for his breaking ball. There is some upside in Fiene and it is a great get for Butler CC
