WEEK 7 SCOUT BLOG

+ 2024 RHP Micah Melott - Prosper HS - Temple JC

Melott squared off against Wesloski, and the Temple JC recruit won the battle. The senior righty relied heavily on a fastball/cutter combo that kept Boyd off balance all night. He has a low release point on his fastball, which helps the fastball play up in the zone. The fastball sat in the upper 80’s all evening. He also threw a low to mid 80’s cutter all night that he showed great command of. He kept the hitters off the barrel and also sprinkled in a mid 70’s curve as the game went on. Melott has a good frame, and I could see his fastball making another jump in college. A good get for Temple.

+ 2024 SS/RHP Dawson Park - Magnolia West - Texas State

I got to see the future Texas State Bobcat do a little bit of everything last week and he didn’t disappoint. The athletic SS made some highlight reel plays from the shortstop position. He showed good range and more than enough arm to make the throw from the 6 hole. He has a line drive approach at the plate, and shows a short stroke that is geared for the middle of the field, to go with above avg. bat speed. Park also hopped on the mound, and showed an upper 80’s fastball with good carry and some hop at the top of the zone. He flashed a breaking ball as well that showed good spin and good depth.  Park is a fun player, who plays with some bounce.

+ 2025 RHP Nick Wesloski - McKinney Boyd - Uncommitted

Wesloski got the start against a top 5 team in Prosper on Friday night, and did more than enough to give his team a chance to win. The ‘23 future gamer showed a starter profile with some projection left. Wesloski’s fastball was 88-91, and it has been higher at times this spring. His fastball has good sink and ASR, and he stays off the barrel consistently. His slider is too inconsistent still, but when it is right, it flashes as a pitch that can get swing and miss. His change is his best secondary offering. He will drop his slot and push it sometimes, but when he keeps the arm speed right, it flashes above avg. Wesloski has a big frame, and when pitching becomes his main focus, I think he has another jump or two left in the tank.

+ 2025 CIF/RHP Caldwell McFaddin - Magnolia West - Baylor

The ‘22 future gamer got the start for the defending 5A State Champs and showed some pitch ability to go with a strong, workhorse frame. The velo was in the upper 80’s, a little down from earlier in the spring, but it showed good life and he has feel for both sides of the plate. McFaddin also shows above avg. secondary offerings. He has a curveball that he throws with some power, and when he gets out front with it, has good depth. His change flashes at times, and is a useful pitch against lefties. McFaddin moves well down the mound, and I could see his velo continuing to climb.

+ 2026 LHP Harper Heathcott - Lake Creek

The talented sophomore lefty squared off against McFaddin and more than held his own. Heathcott changed speeds, moved the ball around, and generated consistent weak contact. He commanded the fastball well, and showed the willingness to go in on righties as well. The fastball sits in the low 80’s.  He also threw a changeup and curveball. He could throw both for strikes and bury them when ahead. The changeup generated a lot of weak pop ups and the curveball created weak contact on the ground. Heathcott can pitch, and if that velo starts to tick up, his stock is really going to skyrocket.

+ 2025 INF Conner Helms - Dripping Springs - Texas State

The 2023 future gamer has picked it up offensively lately and is starting to show off his pull side power. This was on display last week vs Westlake as he hit a HR deep into the night, late in the game that put the game out of reach and sealed the deal for Dripping Springs. Helms is someone you do not want to get behind in the count to as he is hunting his pitch and can do damage when he gets it.

+ 2025 INF Jack Tyndall - Dripping Springs - Uncommitted

As a running back in the fall, the athleticism is apparent from Tyndall. He carries a sturdy build, but has some speed on the bases and in the OF. He collected 2 hits on the day and also drove in a run for the Tigers. He patrols the OF well and can play all 3 positions.

+ 2025 1B/OF Jack Casteel -Westlake - Uncommitted

The uncommitted LHH Jr. has a physical build and  hits out of the 3 hole for the Chaps. There is some swing & miss in his game but he shows some serious juice when he connects. He burned the CF on a line drive last week that may have been triple digit exit velo off the bat. He gets in the box ready to let it fly and isn’t afraid to pull the trigger.

+ 2025 SS/CF Theo Gillen - Westlake - Texas

The Texas recruit didn’t get much to hit when I saw him last week, but he remained patient and trusted his approach while drawing 3 walks. He scored 3 runs as well for the Chaps and when he did get a pitch to hit, he turned it around for a hard hit 2B to RF. The LHH continues to impress in the box each time I see him.

+ 2027 OF/RHP Lane Johnson - Westlake

Johnson was a member of the 2023 Junior Future Games team and has looked good at the plate both times I have seen him play in HS. The freshman has a simple approach and is poised in the box. He is on time and puts together good AB’s. He got a good swing off, late in the game that resulted in a double over the right fielder's head.  Johnson is going to be fun to follow throughout his HS career as he continues to develop and play at a high level.

+ 2025 OF/LHP Taylor Tracey - Dripping Springs - Tennessee

The tall, lanky, Tennessee recruit hits out of the leadoff spot for the Tigers. He set the tone early last week with a double off the top of the wall in the first AB of the game. The athleticism and bat speed are present. He floats around in CF as well and he has worked his way back to the mound after an injury. Tracey is fun to watch and can impact the game in all facets,

+ 2025 C Gavin Hoel - Dripping Springs - Uncommitted

The uncommitted Jr backstop was a tough out last week. He ended the game going 5-5 at the plate with 4 singles and a double. Hoel bats out of the 2 hole for the Tigers and is a key piece to their success as a table setter for the rest of the lineup. He also handles the pitching staff well behind the plate.

+ 2025 RHP Cooper Rummel - Dripping Springs - Texas

Rummel didn’t have his best outing but it is hard not to think about what the future holds for the big RHP. He cruises with the FB at 89-91 and can always reach back for more. The secondaries have come a long way since his freshman year as well and he is continuing to sharpen his craft. As he continues to get more meaningful innings under his belt, you will see him gain confidence in his arsenal and strike throwing ability.

+ 2025 3B Tristan Ciechanowicz - Dripping Springs - Uncommitted

The uncommitted Jr. had a big game against Westlake last week. He drove in 7 runs, on 2 HR and a double. One of the HR’s was a Grand Slam that took the wind out of the sails of a Westlake comeback. The Tigers didn’t look back and won the game handily and would go on to sweep Westlake last week. The 3B will be a big part of the Tigers playoff push as they aim to finish the season strong.
