Updated Illinois Power 25 Rankings

Illinois Scouting Staff

In our second true update of the season, the top four teams in the state, Nazareth (13-0), Joliet Catholic (9-0), St. Laurence (11-1) and Providence Catholic (6-2) remain unchanged. Nazareth continues to rattle off wins and after yet another perfect week (2-0) they sit at 13-0 on the season.

Overall this week was relatively quiet with movement up-and-down the list. Only two new teams entered the fold and two exited. Read on below for a look at the notable Power 25 action that took place over the past week.

CLIMBING

+ No. 5 Edwardsville (7-5): The Tigers look to be back on track with three wins this past week, taking down rival O’Fallon twice by the scores of 6-3 and 16-2, as well as Francis Howell 6-3, one of the top programs in Missouri. The record might not blow you away, but their strength of schedule rivals few, if any at the moment.

+ No. 15 Crystal Lake South (8-0): The Gators’ offense continues to roll as they picked up two wins this past week, knocking off Prairie Ridge 10-7 and Dundee-Crown 8-6. They have a busy week ahead of them, as they are scheduled to play Prairie Ridge, Burlington Central twice and Dundee-Crown again at the end of the week.

+ No. 19 Triad (8-4): Triad picked up two quality wins this past week to steer back in the right direction, taking down Collinsville 8-4 and Granite City 3-0. The Knights have two conference games this week against Civic Memorial, and they’ll also play Thursday against St. Anthony.

+ No. 20 Sycamore (6-0): A perfect 2-0 week has Sycamore rising three spots to No. 20 as they took down Plainfield South by the scores of 3-2 and 10-4. They have quite a few games on the slate this week, taking on conference foe Rochelle three times, as well as Woodstock North twice on Saturday.

+ No. 21 St. Charles North (4-2-1): North made the most of their one game of the week, taking down former No. 21 Lincoln-Way East by the score of 6-4. North will be tested this week with a couple Power 25 matchups on their schedule, as they plan to take on No. 4 Providence Catholic on Friday and No. 13 Libertyville Saturday.

+ No. 22 Joliet West (8-3): The Tigers only played once this past week and saw a 5-1 victory over Bradley Bourbonnais. They have a quality group of games coming up this week, including a matchup with No. 7 Minooka this afternoon.

FALLING

+ No. 17 Fenwick (10-2): The Friars are down two spots after a busy week where they went 4-2 over a six game span. It was difficult to put a finger on just how difficult the six-game schedule was, as every team was from out of state. The Friars are down two spots in the most recent update and have yet to drop a game to an Illinois opponent.

+ No. 23 Lincoln-Way Central (7-4): The Knights move down the list five spots after a 2-2 week. Like the aforementioned Friars, Lincoln-Way Central played a number of out of state competition with a 6-2 loss coming to Ballard (No. 6 in KY). They also lost 4-3 to Lockport and knocked off SIlver Creek (IN) 4-2 and Greenon (OH) 19-0. Time will tell with the Knights as they will play plenty of tough Illinois opponents moving forward.

+ No. 25 Lincoln-Way East (5-5): The Griffins are another team moving towards the bottom of the updated list, down four spots from last week. A tough 1-1 week featured a big 10-9 win over Andrew but a 6-4 loss to No. 21 St. Charles North has them at .500 on the year and hanging onto the last spot in the Power 25. A tough week ahead awaits as they have games scheduled against Bradley-Bourbonnais, Brother Rice, Lincoln-Way West and Lemont.

NEW TO THE POWER 25

+ No. 18 Geneva (8-0): The Vikings are off to a hot start, and they have been getting strong performances almost everywhere you look with names like Nate Stempowski (2024; Judson commit), Kollin Mickelsen (2024), Bryce Breon (2024), Michael Toole (2025) and Sam Seykora (2024) all having at least 20 at-bats while all hitting over .400. Their pitching has also been a strong suit, with unsigned seniors Seth Kisner (2-0, 13 IP, 15 K, 3.23 ERA) and Josh Feucht (2-0, 11.1 IP, 11 K, 0.62 ERA) both leading the charge on the mound.

+ No. 24 Sandburg (8-1): An early season win over then ranked Brother Rice got Sandburg firmly on the map and they have rattled off seven straight wins to earn their way into the Power 25 for the first time at No. 24. The Eagles only loss on the season was a 9-8 game on March 16th to Lemont. Sandburg has five games on the schedule this week with four of them coming against Power 25 teams. The big week should be very telling for them moving forward.
