For the next two weeks we will roll out our Preseason Power 25. Three staff members voted on their version of the thirty best teams in the Preseason Power 25, with a possibility of 90 total vote points for each team. We will release three teams per day for the first week and then move to two teams per day once we reach the Top 10 next week. Voting for preseason teams centers more around the depth of talent on that team, as well as where it stacks up within their region/area, as opposed to strictly predicting schedule outcomes.

Generally, larger schools and classifications have a greater depth of player talent on roster. However, once the season begins and records begin to take shape, the Power 25 will be adjusted as needed. In addition to that, we will debut our Private School Top 10 around April 1st and Small School Top 10 around mid-April.

The #22 team is the Abingdon Falcons. The deep southwest Virginia power has made it deep into the playoffs and state tournament, but they are looking to seal the deal in 3A this year.

#22 Abingdon

The southwest Virginia powerhouse lost six seniors from last year’s club, but the Falcons learning how to fight through without their stud senior Ethan Gibson may be the biggest takeaway from last season. Gibson was their do-it-all star and with him being out all season, the Falcons had to be “next man up”. Jett Humphreys (William & Mary) handled that role well, showing off his two-way ability throughout the season. He was the District Player of the Year, as well as named 1st Team All-State. Upperclassmen Braylen DeBusk, Beckett Dotson, Daniel Fellhauer, and Elijah Parks should be major players in the Falcons’ success in 2024. Landon Turman and Aidan Woods got some big innings last year as freshmen and should continue to be important pieces moving forward. There are a few other talented young players, but we will give it time to see if and how they fit in this season.

Final Thoughts:
"Jett Humphreys is the workhorse for this squad, but Daniel Fellhauer may be my breakout pick for this team in 2024. Between Fellhauer and Parks they have the talent and depth behind Humphreys for Abingdon to make its case as a favorite in 3A. They return over 60% of their lineup, as well as some of their most important innings on the mound. All of that does not even factor into some of the talented underclassmen that they have that were not a part of the '23 team. In my opinion there are not many 3A teams, if any, that can match their level of talent and depth on the roster."
